Cleaning before vacation
Anyone else a crazy nut before going away to make sure the house is spotless? LOL!
I am a neat freak to begin with so always trying to keep the house clean, but before going away I am doing soooo much laundry, mopping, dusting, etc. I just want to come home to a spotless house and only worry about laundry from vacation.

I get like that too. Especially when I'm going away and leaving DH and the kids home. I feel bad leaving a mess behind. I really like when I do it before a family trip because it's nice to come home to a clean house and fresh sheets. But honestly, it's an utter waste of time when I do it for DH, because inevitably my house is a hot mess when I return and I need to clean again anyway.

Definitely, and I go crazy food shopping. But that's usually because my sister is staying at my house to watch my dogs and I want her to be comfy!

I'm the same way!! The house is always immaculate when we leave for vacation, there is nothing I hate more than walking into a mess after being away.

This but it's my FIL. He moves in for however long we are gone to take care of our dogs and lizards. So I clean more than I would (including freshening up the guestroom) and fill the fridge with stuff he likes.

Only if my parents are staying to watch DD.
I do tidy up more than usually regardless because someone has to come in daily to feed the cats.
Before I had cats, when nobody had to come in, I couldn't care less what the house looked like.
Packing and getting everything together and getting out the door in time to make the flight was stressful enough.
The house always took a back seat to that

Cleaning before vacation
Always! I am cleaning like a maniac during the week and the night before I am scrubbing the bathroom, an mopping the floors. The morning we leave (which we usually leave around 4am when we go away) I change our bed sheets and make the bed while dh is in the shower so we come homento fresh sheets. I hate coming home to a messy house!!

DH thinks I'm nuts, but then I tell him he can clean the bathroom, vacuum, and do all the laundry when we come home from vacation.

Yes! I kill myself packing and making sure the house is immaculate before leaving. All laundry needs to be done and away because I know I will already have a ton to do when we get home. The last thing I want to see when coming home from vacation is a messy house. It would kill all my relaxation to have to start cleaning on top of the unpacking and laundry.

One time FDNY had to break down my apartment door while I was on a cruise! The dog jumped up on the stove- probably chasing a fly or something- and turned on the gas!!! Glad it was pretty clean in there anyway! My sister was watching them, but it happened while she was at work. So there's good reason! Who knows who is going to be walking in there!

Our house is always pretty clean and tidy - but yeah, anytime we go away, we always clean beforehand so the only things that we need to do when we return are laundry and grocery shopping.

Same. I try and straighten up but my room always looks like a bomb hits when I go on vacation, that's just how I pack.

Im far from a neat freak LOL but its funny you post this; in recent times i've been cleaning (not going crazy but straightening and laundering) prior to leaving so when we're back we're good to go, takes the stress out of coming back to a mess and losing that ohhhhhhhhhhh so relaxing vacation feel
