Re: BIL iwedding party question?

Considering you've been in the family so long, the bridal party is not small, and the bride called you sister, yes, I'd expect to be in the party.

this.

i'd expect it under the circumstances. i'd probably be a little hurt... then i'd get over it when i realized how much expense and stress i'm not having to deal with.

BIL iwedding party question?

No, it's not for your BIL to pick the bridesmaids, that's for his fiance to decide. If it were my DH's sister I might feel differently, except that my SIL wasn't in our wedding either.

No. Honestly I would be thrilled if they didn't ask. Weddings are much more fun as a guest instead of "employee" for a day.

I would be hurt if I wasn't asked, especially if it's a bigger bridal party.

I would feel the same way. If it was a very small bridal party (just MOH and BM), then no, I would not be offended.

ETA I have always had a nice relationship with BIL for 10+ years when he got married. I was not close with his wife (they are now divorced) so I was not shocked when I was not asked to be in the bridal party.

Honestly, it's cheaper and easier NOT to be in the BP. No responsibilities other than to dance, drink, eat and the have fun! Bridesmaids are posing for pictures, helping the bride to the bathroom, watching flower girls, etc.

No I would not expect it. We had each other's siblings in our weddings, but not in-laws. I think it might have hurt my Sisters husband, but I had him participate in the mass. I had my one brothers wife do a reading.

Re: BIL iwedding party question?

Yes. I'm the oldest of four and everyone was in our wedding, plus my sister's boyfriend (who became my BIL). DH only has one sister, who I cannot stand, and she was a bridesmaid too. IMO family should be part of your bridal party unless you completely hate the person, have no contact with them, or they physically can't participate.

Wasn't asked to do a reading either... Later on near the wedding I was asked if I wanted to hand out wedding programs.

My 2 yo and my 6 yo both were in the wedding party...
before the wedding I had seen BIL weekly for family dinner & holidays.. For the first 4 years I knew him was over at the house almost daily.. For the last 4 years before the wedding I probably saw her more at family events than some of her bridesmaids from out of state saw her

Yes, personally I agree it was alot less expensive to not be in the wedding.. but would have been nice to have been asked, so I was curious if other people thought they would have been asked... probably wouldn't have stung so much if I had been invited to the bachlorette party more than a week in advance.

BIL iwedding party question?

I had almost exactly the same situation. DH's only sibling is getting married soon, and I thought his fiance might ask me to be a BM because we spend a lot of time together (weekly dinners, vacations away, etc.). Honestly, I was hoping not to be asked, because of expense and time, but I kind of thought I would be because we spend a lot of time together and it's family. Though I also knew she had a lot of friends. Then she asked me to come BM dress shopping, and I could see her dress at the same time. I didn't really want to go, because it was a bad weekend for me, but I felt obligated to go, and I kind of assumed that meant I was going to be in the bridal party. I didn't find out until I walked into her parents house to go shopping that I wasn't in the party. Even though I didn't really want to be a BM, it still stung, so I definitely understand how you feel.
