Anyone on here live in Washington DC?

We have a trip planned for this weekend - saturday through wednesday but a friend of mine said she thought there was going to be a snow storm there next week!! I checked online and it says 70% chance of precip / snow on monday but I cannot find anything more definitive.

Anyone?

I used to live in Maryland and I have a friend that's a meteorologist for one of the tv stations. Right now the thought (although it's really too far out to tell) is that Monday night into Tuesday could see some snow that would change into freezing rain and then all rain.

Re: Anyone on here live in Washington DC?

I work in DC and live in MD, obviously the information you're getting on the internet about the weather is the same as we'd get here Chat Icon

What I can add, however, is that schools close for a sprinkle of snow around here and for no good reason. They like to play the "we don't have the equipment like norhtern states do" but the roads around me are always plowed and fine (obviously, if it's a blizzard it's a different story). So if you're planning on doing lots of kid-friendly things and the schools close they'll be crowded.

Other than that, I can't see how the upcoming storm would be enough to change travel plans.

Thanks for that insight - so surprised to hear that the schools closel so quickly with snow in DC...I mistakenly thought that you guys would be up and running before the rest of the country Chat Icon

We're still going down on Monday. It didn't sound as if there will be a lot of snow even if it snows.

I think we had like 14 snow days last year and like 10 two hour delays. We live in VA right outside of DC.

For the January blizzard, my kid had 7 full days of school closed. They cancelled all afternoon/eve activities this week for a snow furry. It was ridiculous.

That being said, I would not change travel plans for the snow forecast. It is forecasted to be very cold this weekend though.

Re: Anyone on here live in Washington DC?

I used to live and work in Dc. My experience was that the entire city would shut down at even an inch of snow. It is not like they don't get snow, but for whatever reason drivers there just can't handle it. They routinely have huge crashes in snow on the beltway. So, I would go, but expect that they may shut stuff down on Monday. Then again, it is going to be brutally cold here and there this weekend, so walking is going to be uncomfortable. Dc is a walking city.

Re: Anyone on here live in Washington DC?

Thanks Everyone...we decided to reschedule and go mid week instead of today. Weather looks pretty messy there for the next few days and it would be painful with the kids.
