Half time show
So no one at the Super Bowl party I was at had any clue about the controversy about Beyoncés song and outfit.
I heard about it at work and FB today.
What's the deal? Why were we clueless? Was it that obvious she was making statement or something?

The black panther thing was obvious to me only bc of her outfit.

Re: Half time show
Apparently if you watch the video for the song it is very anti-police. I saw a still shot of her sitting on a sinking New Orleans police car. I won't watch it because I can't stand her (way before this controversy). Her dancers were holding up signs after the show, etc. Their outfits were a nod to the Black Panthers. There were rumors she had a police escort to the show, so people are up in arms because of the hypocrisy of that. I am so over her, have been for years. hate her entitles, queen of the world attitude, and her husband's too!

I dunno. I wasn't impressed with her but then again I never am. They could have done something way better than that.

Totally agree. I was just telling dh how years ago she was so much more humble.
The video is really anti police. I saw the same still of her on the sinking New Orleans cop car.

Honestly, I was too busy paying attention to Bruno Mars. When he wasn't on screen I was just waiting for him to come back and wasn't paying much attention to her at all.
But I did hear about all the controversy today.

They were paying homage to the Black Panthers and the song/video is very anti police. They (the entertainment news) were saying her new album is very politically charged. She is a singer and entertainer. I really don't care what her political views are, she should just perform.
For the half time show, I didn't think she was good at all. Bruno stole the show!! He was great and should just do it every year lol.

Half time show
Mmm I don't know if I like the term anti police.
I don't think she (or most law abiding people) are anti police. I think we have some issues that need fixing regarding law enforcement - especially in regards to race matters.
I think you can be pro black lives matter without being anti police. The things that have happened & continue to happen in this day and age are atrocious. And not just with cops but also with situations like Katrina.
I just don't think that any time someone speaks out against the ills of law enforcement - (and let's not kid ourselves, no establishment is without its evils, it's flaws, with room for reform and/or improvement) - that suddenly you're disrespecting an entire force, you know? You're simply speaking up for the victims and desiring to better things as a whole for everyone.
All in all, I think those who believe in the notion of systemic racism aren't going to see an issue with beyonces video or performance.

I just don't don't like her or her music. I am tired of seeing her so exposed on stage. She has been wearing the same sort of costume and dancing the same moves for years.
Honestly, I did not listen to the song. From the start it was weird and that whole entourage of backup dancers turned me off. I was more interested in seeing more of Coldplay.
Some will agree with the message in her music, some will disagree. Freedom of speech. She is not the first musician to do this.

I agree.
And not for nothing - saying she should just "entertain" marginalizes and diminishes the platform that she has among her own people to discuss matters that are vital, important and necessary to them. It's not the place of any person to tell her what she should or should not be doing, that she has no right to feel how she feels, or oppress her voice.
If it's not for you, or you don't like the message, keep it moving. Chances are you'll never be on the side of police brutality anyway.

I thought it was in poor taste to push the divide even further when the end of the halftime show was obviously about bringing everyone together in love

I think the issue was what the black panthers represented, justice to the mistreating of a minority, even if violence is needed, which is so different from what Marting Luther King preached, pretty much the same thing BUT without the violence.

Her message was completely different from the theme of this year Super Bowl. Love does not mean Violence (regardless what the reasoning behind violence is.)

See and I interpreted that as this: we have an obvious issue with race relations in modern times, and it has been thrust in the light the last few years in law enforcement situations and catapuled via social media. Let's work to fix that problem on both sides (cops and civilians - namely, the bad apples on each side) and the the rest of us law abiding citizens and good cops all come together in love and peace to fix things as one whole. I just don't think there's a divide between cops and the public. Police are always thank and commend them and anyone in their right mind respects them and all they do. Many of us have LE in our families. We know what they sacrifice.
But can we make things better? I believe so. Can we maybe have police forces look more like the communities they serve? Can we get body cameras? More roles for police in the community to build better relations and trust? Can there be a better way that others on the force can report cops who are a using their power? Can we reevaluate the roles and use of force? It would serve to better protect cops, as well.
All the good people benefit on each side. Not looking to debate anyone , everyone has her own opinion on this but I do think it's an important topic.

I kinda agree. People keep saying she is un-American, but, as Americans, we all have freedom of speech.
I support our police force and have many friends that are officers who are wonderful people that have my utmost respect. However, this mentality of "your with us or your against us" doesn't sit well with me.
