Leeland Cypress tilted over from snow
I have a few on my side fence for privacy and they are completely knocked down with snow. I went out to take some snow off and they are still quite slanted. Has this happened to anyone? I'm not sure if they are ever going to come back. I waited three years for them to grow this tall for privacy and can't imagine having to lose them and start all over again. Anyone know if they are salvageable?

We have several the same. I'm pretty sure they'll pop back up in a few days. It's always a good idea to try to keep snow off of them though.

Thanks. I wish I thought of taking the snow off sooner. I only took a bunch of snow off this morning.

Re: Leeland Cypress tilted over from snow
The same exact thing happened to us. DH removed the snow the same day. Most were fine, but 3-4 are still slanted. He seems confident they will straighten again. I think as long as they didn't snap they will be okay. Worst case scenario, when the snow clears you can tie them around a tall stick to make them upright again.

Or beautiful dainty Japanese maple lost two of its major limbs. Now it looks more like a stick than a tree
My dad says the other branches will become that much stronger and you'd be amazed how trees can grow back
I feel your pain.

My whole property was lined with Leland Cypress trees and we lost most of them to a storm several years ago. Two whole sides of our property, now we only have them lining the back of our property. They are very shallow rooted, so be careful and check on them. While none fell down, when we went to check on them we could actually move the trunks back and forth just by pushing on them, we were able to sway them. We had a landscaper come and look at them and he said people always use them for privacy because they grow so fast, but they are really shallow rooted and come down very easily. My husband actually took out about 15 of them on his own, with a handsaw and was able to easily dig up most of the roots, that is how shallow they were-and our trees were about 20 feet tall at the time.

Re: Leeland Cypress tilted over from snow
We have arborvitae's and the smaller ones (9-10 feet high) we had to tie to the fence from the one big storm last year. They straightened out eventually, but we think it's because we tied them up. They would have hit the ground again if it wasn't for them still being tied. We take the heavy snow off them as fast as we can too.

Re: Leeland Cypress tilted over from snow
I went out today now that snow is gone. They are still tilted. They are about six feet tall and it is heavy to pull. I managed to take one and wrap it and tie it to the fence to stand it up but probably need some kind of string that is stronger. I hope I don't lose them.
