New Barbie dolls?

I saw them and think they are very unique. More "realistic" than the regular Barbie but I never had a problem with the regular doll. IMO it's just a doll

Re: New Barbie dolls?

I can't speak for everyone who was once a little girl playing with Barbies - but I never once hated myself bc I did t have her shape!! I don't get it and I guess don't have to bc I don't have kids

Everything keeps changing to go around how people feel and it's annoying

That is all

My sister and I were talking about this last night. We played with Barbie a lot and I never once even thought about her shape or how we didn't look like that. I was too busy making her and Ken kiss Chat Icon

Re: New Barbie dolls?

I never felt bad about myself because of Barbie growing up and I was fat. I got my self esteem issues from society as a whole. I don't blame Barbie.

I agree. I knew it was just a doll: she was perfect and pretty and it was just that. I think we look into stuff too much now.

New Barbie dolls?

I really did not see a problem with the original Barbie. It's just a doll. I am glad to see some more diverse dolls though because my daughter likes it when I get her dolls that resemble her (she's Asian). DD cares more about their clothes and hair than what their bodies look like.

I like the idea. But then again I never owned a Barbie doll when I was a child. The only doll I had was Jem. No baby dolls or any of that. It wasn't something I was interested in. I still feel the same.

Stuffed animals were my thing and now I have three cats, so there's that Chat Icon

Re: New Barbie dolls?

I think we are raising a generation of kids who are going to grow up thin skinned, offended by everything, and with the mentality that the world should cater to them and all of their "feelings".

It's a doll. A toy. I had a million Barbies as a kid and NEVER felt like I needed to be Barbie or look like Barbie. And guess what, it's YOUR job as a PARENT to raise your child with a good self image and to help them develop self worth. If you're relying on Mattel and a silly plastic doll to do it for you then you have issues.

I disagree that it's any different now then when we were kids. We had magazines and models and an "ideal of beauty" that is really no different than today. And when my DD is 13 she will be 13 because I won't let her act like a "mini adult" the same way my parents didn't let me. Again, it's called parenting and raising your child. That's MY job, nobody else's and certainly not Barbie's.

Exactly. Who is buying these 13 year olds iphones and fake lashes and allowing them to have Instagram accounts.
I blame the parents for the way our society has become. Nobody else.

Yes you are both right but the reality is this happens and the girl who doesn't look like that can feel like what's wrong with me

I just don't get how making these dolls is catering? Should we say the same

I never had a problem with the old Barbie dolls.
But I also don't a problem with the new ones. I don't see anything wrong with kids having a mix of them. A little diversity is good thing.

If I had a child that played with Barbies I would absolutely get them a few different ones. Without explanation since I don't think everything needs an explanation. Just let them see that everyone isn't the same.
Same with different race dolls.
