How long should it take for a member of HR dept to respond to an inquiry?

24 hours, but if they were out of the office because of the snow, I could see it taking until tomorrow.

Depends on what it is. We have a HR portal that everything is supposed to go to. That ends up in Australia and then they route it to the correct person.

I think it depends on the company. I would say 48 hours, but at my place they will not respond to you for weeks if at all,and to get any type of response you have to place many calls, emails etc...

This is my situation. Issue has been going on for a month and i've reached out to numerous individuals. I'll just keep following up

in my experience it depends on the size of the company and the question
when i have basic, easy to answer (yes or no type questions), we get a response in 24 hours
if it is more complicated and the HR contact may need to seek a supervisors help in answering, i would say a week
A month is excessive...how frustrating
