Book instead of a card at a baby showetr
So I was invited to a baby shower where the host has requested we bring a book for baby instead of a card. I LOVE this idea, but how does it work exactly? Do I sign the inside of the book? Can I get her several books? Did you put a little gift tag on the outside of your gift anyway so she knew who it was from?

My sister requested this for my shower. I adored this idea!!
My guests wrote sweet messages on the inside cover of the book they brought.

I'd sign the inside cover of the book- or the title page. I do love this idea. It's just hard because she'll probably get a lot of the same books- go for something that most people wouldn't think to get. I usually get "Where the Sidewalk Ends"- it's such a favorite of mine and most people forget about it.

People did this for me for my baby shower. I loved it! I loved when people wrote little messages inside.

Cute idea but what if you get duplicates? You can't return because they wrote in it, right? Do you just keep them?

That is exactly why we didn't do this for my sister's shower. People typically write a note on the side of the book, and then you can't return it.
We ended up buying 2 books for each table, and had the guests write a note to the baby on the inside cover of their books. My sister absolutely loved it

A friend had the "in lieu of a card please give a book" thing. It was a great idea, but I don't know if she got duplicates. We just wrote on the inside cover the same as we would have the inside of a card.

We did something similar for a friend's baby shower instead. Barnes & Noble has a beautifully bound collection of Mother Goose fairy tales. We bought that as a guest book. It was such a pretty and special keepsake.
ETA: Whoops- it was Hans Christen Anderson, the purple book...

What my best friend did to avoid duplicates was adding books to her registry. It worked out pretty well.

I did this for my sister's baby shower but as guests arrived, I had cute little book plates that matched the theme for the guests to write a note on and then tuck inside the book. Then everyone put there books on a bookcase I had set up for her.
If there were duplicates she just had to take the book plate out and save it otherwise if she was keeping the book, she could peel the sticker backing off and adhere the book plate to the inside cover. Worked great!

They did this at my shower. Most people wrote a nice little note for my son. Its fun to read them when he grabs one of the books of the shelf.

I had a book-themed wishing well at my shower because while I loved this idea, I didn't love the idea of having to keep duplicates.

They did this for my shower. Loved it. Some people wrote in the book and some gave us a card with the book.

You write a message inside the book so it can be seen and kept forever. I love it. I have a few books myself that were given to my daughter that way... My mom was asked to do this and she is so old school that she hated the idea and just got a card instead.

This was done for my shower... LOVED it.. best idea ever. Only had one duplicate. Some people wrote their message on a post it-- good idea, except that the post it-- got lost over the years .

My sister did this for my baby shower. I love the idea, DS has so many books. Some people like one of my best friends wrote something really special in the beginning of the book, some only signed their name, and some didn't sign just put the book in with the gift.
