Something I'd wear to work- either black pants and a sweater or cardigan or a wrap dress or sweater dress

Usually coming from work so black dress pants or long skirt and a dark colored sweater set or just a nice top if in the warm weather. Probably the same if on a weekend.

Depends. If it's a family member I usually get dressed up. Dark clothes. Dress pants and top.
If not then more casual, especially if I'm not staying long. Jeans and a dress top.

Anything that I would wear to work that is black or dark gray. Typically that would be black dress pants with a dark sweater or nice shirt depending on the season.

yup, usually work clothes. Black slacks and a dark blouse or shirt with cardigan.

I usually wear black pant and a top but I really think anything is fine as long as it doesn't look like your going to a club or decked out in a sequin gown.

Depends on who it is. For a relative, dark business casual clothes. For anyone else, I may wear jeans and a nice top, or work clothes. Either way, I stay away from overly bright colors.

Something business casual and not brightly colored. Definitely no jeans or sneakers (a 50 year old woman came to my grandfather's funeral like this and my family did not appreciate it).

In my family we really don't get dressed up for the wake but get dressed for the burial. If I was attending someone else black pants and a shirt, or black sweater dress.

I will add without reading op, I would not wear jeans either, but if that was a choice and that's all you have wear it an go. It better to show up in jeans then not go at all.
I attended a wake once looking like a mess bc I had no choice, and felt, it was nicer to show up as is.
