Re: tinnitus
I don't really know about a good resource but I suffered from that pretty bad and found acupuncture to be a HUGE relief.
I also, when it was at it's worst, used a sound machine at night when sleeping. To me, that was the worst time for it -- or when I noticed it the most.

My sound machine has like eight or so settings on it. It has white noise but I prefer "Summer Rain". There's also thunder, beach/ocean waves, and a bunch of others.
They sell them at Brookstone. Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.

Re: tinnitus
DH's friend has seen a few specialists for this. In his case it was slight hearing loss that was causing it. Apparently when you begin to lose hearing, some people will hear a ringing in that ear.
He should see an ENT and also have his hearing tested.
Once he got a small hearing aid, the issue resolved itself.

I have had it for many years. I think it is caused by my TMJ. Occasionally, I will put a drop of olive oil in each ear using a straw. Just drop it in and lay on the opposite side for a few minutes. It will feel squishy and hearing is muffled for a few minutes, but it really does help.
