Christening gift
I was asked to be god-mother of my husbands cousins son - super excited to say the least, worst part is they live in California so seeing him won't be so often for thankful for Facetime... Anyway we are going to CA for the christening in March so it's honestly a huge expense already but my question is what is an appropriate gift to give, kinda don't want to give cash and also what are my responsibilities as far as being his god mother - do I buy the outfit, or pay for the dinner???

Christening gift
In my family and within my circle of friends the god mother usually buys the outfit and gives a monetary gift. If not a monetary gift then some kind of keep sake such an engraved picture frame or such. Godfather buys cross and gives monetary gift.

Re: Christening gift
If there is already an outfit or cross bought then I would buy some sort of keepsake. My DD's godmother in addition to the cross got her a picture frame with the date she was baptized and a "godchild" ornament.

Christening gift
In my family as well the godparents buy the outfit, blanket, etc - for the baby. It is customary for the godparents (usually godfather) to buy a cross necklace and they give a money gift as well for the reception.

Re: Christening gift
In my family, the godmother buys the christening gown. You can check in with the parents. This and/or a keepsake like a piece of jewelry (godfather does cross on chain though), or a small guardian angel statue, depending on your budget.
