Sleepovers and kids
When kids sleep at someone else's house is it expected that they sleep on the carpet in sleeping bags? Isn't this the norm or are air mattresses provided?

Re: Sleepovers and kids
Sleeping bags are fine, I will sometimes blow up air mattresses. Really, either is fine.

Sleepovers and kids
Growing up we always slept on the floor. In my house I never put anyone on the floor but I think it's bc I have air mattresses and in the 80's they weren't as popular. Also I haven't had a slumber party, just my best friend's 2 kids, so with only 2 extra it's easier to get everyone into an actual bed.

We have a roll out couch and bunk beds that kids usually sleep on.

Sleepovers and kids
I guess it depends on the age and closeness of kids. As little kids , we always did sleeping bags. I also always hated sleepovers and wanted to go home in the middle of the night. I'm a creature of comfort lol.
When I was a teen, 16-17-18, maybe even during college at times - my girlfriends would sleep in my bed and one on my futon in my room. We were as close as sisters though so it wasn't weird or anything, you know?

As young kids we would sleep in sleeping bags or a pull out couch if they had one. We also shared beds sometimes. That seems kind of weird now but we did that alot lol.

When I was a kid we used to do sleeping bags on the floor. It was fun.
When we were older my bff had a queen size bed so 3 of us girls would sleep there. We were (and still are) like family and tbh, if we had to I still wouldn't think it was weird to share a bed with my bff. Is it weird that I don't think it's weird?!

No I don't think it's weird, maybe, who knows lol. I also shared beds with my best friends into my 30s on vacations and stuff but it sounds weird saying it lol. But weird is good no? : )!!!

Sleepovers and kids
Growing up I had bunk beds so if 1 friend slept over they just slept in the other bunk. Any more than that we would set up the playroom with all blankets on the floor and everyone stayed in there. My SIL is in high school and if her one close friend stays over they share a bed but otherwise they are on the floor too.

if there were a lot of kids we slept in sleeping bags on the floor. if it was just 2-4 of us, we usually shared a bed or two beds.

What was the point for the sleepover if you slept in a separate room?

Re: Sleepovers and kids
I happened to have two twin beds in my room growing up, so if I had a friend sleep over they slept in the other bed. If I had a few friends we would sleep in the tv room- some people on the couch and everyone else in sleeping bags on the floor. I remember sleeping in twin beds wth my friends and thinking nothing of it. Or just sleeping on the floor. I didn't care either way. My DS has really only had sleepovers with his friends who are triplets. When they sleep there, someone is on the floor. If they sleep here they sleep in sleeping bags in the playroom. If he had only one friend sleepover I would have them sleep in bed with him since he has a full size. When we go away with friends who have kids, they all sleep wherever. If it's for more then a night or two we will bring an air Mattress or rotate who is on the floor and who gets a bed.

Re: Sleepovers and kids
I'm not sure what is 'expected' but I certainly would never allow anyone to sleep on the floor. I find that beyond rude and inhospitable. If I didn't have the room or ability to comfortably sleep a person, I would not invite them over.
I have an Ikea Chair Bed mattress for a "Lycksele" chair. It fits a single person. I slip a fitted sheet over it so the Velcro doesn't stick to our carpet. I recently trashed the chair portion as it was a pain to move around. It used to be in her room as décor, but once we moved into this house, it didn't 'fit'. We also have a full size blow up mattress.
When AJ has slept at others, she has been put on a inflatable.
However.......... expectations.. I do not expect her to be put up on a bed or a mattress. AJ is perfectly happy sleeping on the floor with a sleeping bag. So much that just this weekend she had a sleep over and although her friend was properly comfy, AJ decided to sleep on the floor next to her with only a blanket between her and the carpet. She loved it. The full size bed stayed empty. Go figure!
So when she stays over... I ask. Would you like me to send a sleeping bag? Generally I hear "no we have a mattress, if that's ok" which it always is.
ETA: yes, when I was a kid, we slept on the floors in our sleeping bags. We also played outside alone until the street lights turned on. Not saying sleeping arrangements are a safety issue, but back then there wasn't much of a choice. Although I do remember piles of blankets on the floor.

I don't know what the norm is now, but when I was a kid you slept on the floor/sleeping bags. That was the whole fun of a sleepover, not sleeping in a bed!

Re: Sleepovers and kids
Why not blow up an air mattress if one is available? Who wants to sleep on the floor if there is another option?

Re: Sleepovers and kids
As a kid when I had sleepovers with more than 1 friend it was usually sleeping bags. DS has slept in a sleeping bag on a floor when he's slept over other homes too.
I see nothing wrong with it. They are kids! I pretty much know who's home he's sleeping at and know they are clean. I don't expect people to buy an air mattress for a young child. Why even sell sleeping bags? We've had a few friends sleep over the house last New Year's and the parents brought the kid's sleeping bags and my boys grabbed theirs and they all slept on the basement floor. My house is very clean and the kids loved it.
