Do you have Life Insurance?

We both have it through our jobs. Once we have children we will buy a policy in addition to what we receive through work

Do you have Life Insurance?

We have very good policies for myself and my husband through work. My husband and I also have a very small policy each that would just cover funeral costs.

My parents do not have any insurance policy but over the years put money in savings to cover funeral costs. While I think they should have had insurance policies, when they were younger they literally lived pay check to pay check and did not have an extra $20 to spend. Some people can't afford it. When they were financially able to get one, medically both were too high risk and it was too much money. My mom had cancer at 40 and my dad had multiple heart attacks at 42.

Do you have Life Insurance?

DH has a small policy. I do not and may not even qualify and if I did, id probably pay out the ass. I'll have to look into it.

That being said, I would not set up a gofundme to pay for funeral expenses or the like.

I feel like I've answered this before....

I work in the field as well. But not in NY. However there are many people who think they don't qualify because of weight or health issues, when reality we are able to get them an affordable policy. It may not be for the 500k or face value that you were looking for, but you should still be able to find something.

DH has 2 types of policies: Term and Whole Life. Being that he's the sole provider, I do not have a policy.

We've also discussed getting disability insurance as well.

Yes, both Life & Disability.
Not really a fan of GoFundMe lately since I feel some of the reasons for funding are getting out of hand.

I work in the industry. I have heard and seen all the stories. We pay out so many death claims and sometimes, the cause and age of death is eye opening. If you are in your early 30's a policy would be as cheap as 15-20 bucks per month! With that said, yes- we have it. I am passionate about it.

What company would you rec? Feel free to fm.

You have mail. :)

Nope just what I see a LOT of. Many people make poor decisions in life and then expect others to help them out.
Is that everyone? Ab.so.lutely not. I know many others who have had things happen to them not under their control and they don't get the help. I personally know someone who was just abused by their boyfriend. She put up a gofundme. My dh was the ONLY person to help her. So sad as she truly needs the money as she is young and has NO help.

Presumably if the gofundme is for funeral expenses then the person that didn't have life insurance is not the one setting up the gofundme (since they are dead). It's the family of that person. So why are you judging the family for the dead person's choice not to carry life insurance?

And just out of curiosity how do you know so many people that set up gofundme accounts? I have never personally known anyone that set up one of these accounts!

Re: Do you have Life Insurance?

Absoultely - I work for a Life Ins Co. and my Dad did before me -

DH and I are both extensively covered, in the event either of us die, the other will not have to financially suffer, and if we were to both die at the same time, the people who care for our children will never be financially burdened, the kids college will be paid, they will be very well taken care of -
I'd never want anyone I love or care about to have to deal w/ a financial burden on top of my being gone .......

I have a small policy through work. DH and I looked into additional insurance summer 2014 and I was seriously overwhelmed. We have two young kids and definitely need additional insurance.

If anyone has any insight, please share!

Who said I was judging the family? It was always about the person who left the family with nothing to have a funeral and bury them.

I know a lot of people? That is why I know people who have had gofundme's. Not sure what other reason I would have.

I know a lot of people too - just no one that ever sent up one of these accounts.

But seems kind of strange to judge the poor person who is dead for their poor planning, no? My dad died unexpectedly and although he had life insurance, my mom still suffered financially as he was our sole provider. I would hate to think that people judged him for it. He was a good man and a good provider, just never imagined he would die at 51.

I think you should stop concerning yourself so much with other people and their poor planning and their poor decision making. It's great that you have such a good handle on your life. Other people, for a variety of circumstances, might not have such a good handle on theirs.

One thing many people forget about is disability insurance. I have both life and disability. Remember, you're more likely to get disabled than to die (which is why unfortunately disability is so much more expensive).

Do you have Life Insurance?

Absolutely. Its the most important thing you can do for your family, and I encourage everyone to find the money to do it even if it means giving up cable TV, takeout lunches, daily Starbucks runs, etc.
The younger you are, the better your rate will lock in at. Nobody expects to die young but it happens every day.

Same with saving for retirement. I worked with a girl who didn't start until her late 40's as she always said she never had the money. In reality, she did as there were plenty of things she could have cut out and just didn't want to. It is hard in the beginning to find the extra money but you don't even think about that "lost" money after awhile. It gives you more peace of mind that you have the life insurance and retirement there instead of just wasting the money on another pair of shoes or a week of lunches out.

Yes we got term life insurance once we got married. We pay the bill once a year so I don't even really think about it until then.

Re: Do you have Life Insurance?

Yes we do. My DH has one through work and a private one as well, since I'm a SAHM his is a lot more than mine. I also have one for a decent amount as he would need childcare for our 4 kids. We also made sure there would be enough God forbid we both pass and my brother raises our kids, as I think it would be enough of an emotional burden, at least they wouldn't ever have to think of money.

I am curious if it's true our premiums will remain low? I was under the impression we need to renew ever 10 or so years, so I just assumed it didn't matter we started them in our 20s, it would go up as our health changes.

Re: Do you have Life Insurance?

Yes & No

Yes I have life insurance but only through my company. I hope not to die while I'm still employed (not saying at work, that's a whole different thing). I just hope to live long enough to die in retirement somewhere comfy.

So No, I don't have life insurance, because the reality is that the insurance I have no won't cover me for that day, should I live long enough to have my death my way. Once I leave my job, my life insurance coverage ends.

I carry twice my yearly salary. I am after all, in Texas. So I had to carry at LEAST that to keep my level of insurance at a point to cover my expenses (not death expenses per se) after leaving NY State. I plan to keep increasing it incrementally to the max allowed. It's very cheap but then again as I said, I'm not really buying the life insurance I WANT. Just buying it for the off chance I should die younger than I want to.

My life insurance isn't meant to pay for my funeral costs. Don't come. I don't want one. I want what my Dad had. A box. A plaque and a small group of family laughing and drinking over my stories.

I am atheist. I'm going no where. I will just die. My body will no longer be useful to me (yes, I'm a donor).

As my father said. We are immortal as long as there is some one to tell our stories. It's when people forget you and no one is left to remember you that you truly die.

So costs for a cremation is about $2k all in right now. What you do after the cremains are handed back to you in the box can add to that cost. Set me free in the Ocean so I can be with my daughter forever. Water, the true universal power.

But the money? The money is to pay off the house if I die early. Pay off all debt. I calculated our total debt. Should I die, he can get enough to pay off nearly all the debt we have and still provide for her, should he need to.

Now.. the question should be.. who has long term heath care insurance? Cause most of us WON'T die quickly. Ugh.

Do you have Life Insurance?

Lets say this. If I lost my job.. and I did this year (was laid off in April) and should I have died during that time, I have plenty of other benefits that would have been enough to pay for me to become a pile of heavy beige grainy burden.

My other benefits would have also paid into a large amount of the house.

Dying is easy.. living with a disease is much more expensive.

Gotcha. It is always good to have something as like we all see now, many people have nothing and go to sites like gofundme to help when they might not have known it would have cost them next to nothing to get coverage.
