Do Your In-Laws

Usually get you and/or DH a Christmas/holiday gift?

My in laws will usually get DH some sweaters etc but have never actually gotten me anything

Just curious.. as I am stressing out over in laws gifts this year and just realized-- they clearly don't stress over what to get me !Chat Icon

ETA: My parents also give us both gifts for birtdhays, Christmas, anniversaries.. and they are very generous. His parents aren't into gifts so I don't take offense-- b ut just thinking if theyre not into gifts than I don't need to be into gifts for them either =)

My parents get us gifts, dh's parents do not. They don't really give the kids either though!

They usually give DH a bunch of stuff and then give me a few things. I'd rather they didn't though. I have enough junky watches with interchangeable straps from HSN to last a lifetime. With them it's definitely quantity vs quality.

Re: Do Your In-Laws

They give us both gifts - same amount

My mom doesn't give us gifts but that's bc I told her not to. She doesn't have much $ and I don't want her spending it on us. Though she will get a little thoughtful something if she sees it. With me, it's raisinets.

Both sets of parents get us gifts. My parents though are not into internet shopping so I usually buy the gifts for DH and my parents reimburse me.

Re: Do Your In-Laws

well my MIL is insane with her gift giving. she's loaded. she's always bought me something and DH something, and then sometimes a joint gift on top of that.

my parents always buy for DH and sometimes its more than what they give me..LOL.

and that's really weird they only buy for him. How rude!!

Re: Do Your In-Laws

I have grown kids, and I buy their spouses and my younger son's girlfriend the same amount of gifts as I do for my own kids. And, my inlaws are deceased now but they always bought us both gifts.

We get a check and the kids get gifts. My ILs have always been awesome and generous.

My parents buy us both gifts as well.

They do give us both something. But always a gift card. Rarely it's for something that required any thought - either generic visa or a place I wouldn't go to (i.e. Their fav restaurant)

I sound ungrateful but just background to say I'm just like you. This year I told DH this is his responsibility!!!

I shop for all teachers, my family, nieces/nephews on both sides, and our kids. Plus I do cards, cookies, decorating, etc. this is the only thing he has to do.

So OP I totally agree with your approach! BTW I do think it's odd they buy for him and not you. But then again my I laws say "let's take a family pic" and ask me to take it since I'm not included.......but that's another story lol

No. After a couple of years of buying for my inlaws, I stopped. They were very ungrateful and so I don't bother getting them gifts for anything.

I could get into a million things that annoy the ever living crap out of me when it comes to my in laws but although I was taken aback about this one at first I think my MIL just felt like she still needed to shop for her little boy so I wasn't really offended ...lol. but cue my bigger issues with my in laws-- i.e. the fact that he gets treated like a little prince whose mommy still needs to take care of him because his wife isn't.Chat Icon

Ya same here-- I feel like even if they did give me a gift their gift should be his responsibility since theyre HIS parents and I do EVERYTHING else holiday (and lets faceit, everything else ) related , But in this case DH doesn't care - hes the one that's always said not to bother with a gift-- That's not the way I was raised... but a girl can change Chat Icon

Usually my Inlaws give us both money as a joint gift. If they do happen to buy physical gifts instead, they always get us gifts of equal value.

My IL's have always bought me gifts and she spends as much on me as she does on DH. And the reverse is true, my parents buy DH too and spend the same on him.

Frankly, I'd be quite insulted if my IL's bought for DH and not me. I'm his wife, I'm family..........I would consider that in very poor taste on their part to not consider me and get me something as well. Especially since we, as a couple, buy gifts for them on Xmas.

My parents are the same way as your parents and in laws. I agree-- but again-- considering the many things my in laws do which are in poor taste and show a disdain for how they feel about me-- this one ranks low lol.

Re: Do Your In-Laws

They used to make a little more effort in the gift department, but they did always buy for both of us or a joint gift. Now we either get a gift card or usually wine- which is technically for both of us, but DH usually enjoys that gift more then I do ;)
My parents always do equal for both of us. And it's usually cash. The best gift in the world. Lol

Usually just our daughter. And they arent big on that either. My in laws are not big on presents. They do better for her bday. They were never big on presents even before her, like when it came to us.

My MIL is more out of site, out of mind. That is how she acts. Makes no sense though as my parents are out of state too but always remember us and have a relationship with our kids. Some people just put more of an effort into things.
