Is the only way to get a new phone now is to pay monthly for the phones? Is this the only option now? Like a lease?

Re: Sprint customers

All phone carriers are moving to this model, not just Sprint.

With Sprint, there are 2 options where you pay monthly for the phone.

You can lease the phone where you turn the phone in at the end of the agreement and get another one.

You can do something called Easy Pay which means the phone is yours at the end of the agreement. The monthly payments are slightly higher than a lease because you are paying off the full amount of the phone.

They still have 2 year agreements, but they don't really talk about them because at some point they will be gone all together.

Keep in mind, if you lease or Easy Pay, the price of your monthly plan will be lower. If you do a 2 year agreement and get a discounted phone, they charge you more for your plan.

I paid for my phone in full and then I was charged a monthly fee for not leasing the phone. Over my dead body. 6 phone calls of me screaming my head off and I got my way. I pay just for the service. How dare they charge me for owning my phone. Now I pay $75 for everything unlimited. I will continue in the future to purchase my phones and refuse to pay the fee for owning a phone or pay more monthly to lease it.

Re: Sprint customers

If you paid for the phone in full, there should be no monthly fee for not leasing. Sounds like there was a mistake in the system. I'm sorry you had to call that many times to get it resolved because that's not the way it works.

ETA: Unless you did a 2 year contract and paid a discounted price for the phone. If you did a 2 year contract, the price of the plan is more. It's not a fee for not leasing, it's just that they charge more for the phone when you do the 2 year contracts.

If you are not eligible for an upgrade, they offer you the lease program; but if you are eligible for the upgrade you should have the option to lease or buy
