Root Canal Question

I had 2 temp crowns/inlays placed last wed on two lower back molars. I was sore, I had my bite adjusted the next day. As the weekend went on, the pain was unbearable, I lived off Advil. I went back today, explained to my dentist about the throbbing, deep pain, waking me at night. I suspected I prob needed a root canal. He tapped on my tooth and I nearly cried.

We did a root canal today on one tooth. Going back in Jan for the permanent crown. Question: Is it normal to keep having that same kind of pain? I expected to have some relief, as the numbness wore off. I know my mouth had a lot of trauma between last wed 3 hour appt, and then today. How long does it take for the pain to stop? It's not just soreness from all the injections, and drilling, it's still that deep sort of throbbing pain.

I've never had this done before. I am pretty miserable.

Re: Root Canal Question

I have had bad root canals before that have caused that kind of severe pain. Once it lasted a week and narcotics didn't even work! So I feel for you.

I would ask to go back to dr. You could have possible infection Or unfortunately may need repeat root canal bc all pulp wasn't cleaned out

I'm so sorry you are suffering

Root Canal Question

Get back to the dentist first thing tomorrow. Pain isn't normal after a root canal.

Re: Root Canal Question

You could have developed a dry socket which is incredibly painful. It is when the clot from the root canal falls out. Do you see a hole where you had the tooth? Go to an oral surgeon tomorrow. I would also find a new dentist because he or she is not properly addressing your problem.

Re: Root Canal Question

A dry socket is very painful
But cannot come from a root canal. It's from a extraction

You should be sore after a root canal. Not in unbearable pain. Was it def finished? Sometimes they do it in two visits

It could also be the other tooth

If the pain is still unbearable tomorrow I would go have them do a x ray and see what's going on

Feel
Better!
