What would YOU do?

Quick background: I work for a retail bank. We have 2 entrances and from time to time we have a "homeless" man who walks through our branch from one end to the other. He is usually pretty unkempt and looks to be carrying his belongings in plastic grocery bags. Tonight, he walked through and his clothes were absolutely gross and torn and he wasn't wearing any shoes. I desperately want to help this man and ask him if he needs shoes or warm clothes, but even though he minds his own business when he comes in...I don't know this man. I don't know if he will take offense and I don't know his mental stability. I'm 34 weeks pregnant and working in an environment where I don't want to upset anyone who could be unstable in any way. But my heart is breaking that I feel so cautious instead of immediately helping. What would you do? Would you immediately ask him if he needs anything or would you remain cautious?

I would call the police non-emergency line and/or any code officers and describe the situation. They can send someone to talk to the person, give resources, aid, help, etc.

Re: What would YOU do?

Personally I would approach him and tell him he looks like my DHs size (even if he doesn't) and wanted to double check his sizes, coat, shoes and shirts. Then I would buy him some clothes and shoes and give it to him the next time I saw him.

I would approach him while I was still in the bank, God forbid something happens, but from my experience they are usually incredibly grateful for hot food and shoes/coats.

I don't know. I would feel bad for him, but probably wouldn't approach him, especially if I were pregnant. As you said, you don't know how mentally stable he is. I would probably ask a male coworker to approach him.

What would YOU do?

After working in the city and seeing homeless people every 3 feet and seeing the scams they pull I'm jaded and would do nothing.

What would YOU do?

I would give him the emergency after hours number for social services. I hand it out all the time.

I would not approach. He could be mentally imbalanced. Call the precinct

Does he come at a certain time?

Maybe you could leave a box of clothes/shoes near the entrance around when he usually comes. Then, you don't have to directly approach him, but you are still helping him. He doesn't have to ever know that it was you.
