Re: To Hire or not?

I think it's really easy this day and age to just say, screw it and can her bc she is OBVIOUSLY a flake and a million people could take her place. But you just never know what is going on in someones life. She's in a probabtionary period for this very reason. I personally would let her finish her probation and evaluate her overall performance at the end of it. Do I agree she should have called ahead? Absolutely. But do I believe in second chances? Yes. It's for sure a red flag, but that's what the probation period is for. I've hired people for the last several years and I've seen this go both ways, but you don't know until you give someone a shot to prove themselves.

And to be honest, as a hiring manager, there really AREN'T a million people that could take someone's place.
Everyone acts like there are thousands of people on the street just salivating for a job. But in reality, at least in MY field, good people are so hard to find.
It takes us forever to find someone when we have an opening.
If I found a good fit, I'd be a bit more lenient.
It would be way harder for me to start all over from scratch than to give this girl a second chance.
