Children Clothing Sizes??
I don't have children so I am totally lost here. I am trying to buy clothes for a girl and a boy. I am told they both wear a size 5T. What is the difference between 5T and 5? They are ages 4 and 5. I see some things listed as toddler, but I think at 4 and 5 they are no longer a toddler? I would really hate to buy the wrong size.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

T sizes are traditionally to accommodate a diaper. They are actually slightly larger than a size five. Gymboree, Gap, Crazy 8, Janie and Jack, Old Navy, Crew Cuts, and Hannah Anderson all have size 5t that should work for gift giving needs.

Usually the regular size 5 is longer and slimmer for a child and the 5t is wider and shorter for a toddler.
Eta: def get 5t if that is what was suggested

IMO 5t is a little shorter for toddlers. right now DD is wearing 5 or 5T she will be out of 5T before she is out of size 5. I would probably go with size 5 they will get longer use out of it. give a gift receipt so they cant exchange if it doesn't fit

I find 5T fits my tiny daughter better than a 5.
5 is too long sometimes- 5T fits better since she is on the smaller side

If they specifically told you 5T, I'd buy that size. I wouldn't think to buy anything different.

Thanks all for the advice. I saw a really cute set and almost bought it but it was a size 5 not a size 5T. Good thing I asked!
