half day school tomorrow- send them in?

It looks like school ends at like 11:30 tomorrow where I am - there are conferences and stuff.

do you send in your kids on those days? it seems like such a waste but then it's an illegal absence, right?

if you don't have them go in, what do you say when you call?

send them! My kids always tell me how exciting it is to be at school for a half day and especially a day before a holiday.

Yes send them! We had that last week and they went in - its more exciting for my kids to get out early than it is to stay home for the day. They feel like they are cheating the system somehow when they get to leave earlyChat Icon

Re: half day school tomorrow- send them in?

Yup! Those are the fun days they don't have to "learn" so much, but get to play fun games with their friends.
Last half day DS (in first grade) was telling me all about this thumb game where you put your head down at the desk and guess who tapped it. I'm like... Seven Up! I loved that game.
He said it was so much fun!
They have time to do pictures and get to know their friends in class more. Less structural. They all need those days.

Oh, and remember when they would wheel in the TV and open the wall to the class? Best days! LOL
Plus, counts as a day in school.
They're going to be home all week and we'll be doing stuff. I don't have to entertain them on school days. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well, I'm the bad mom. lol. My kids are skipping it. But they are older and I just don't see the point in them getting up at 5am to catch a 6:30 bus to be home by 9:15. Pointless.

I will just say they are not feeling well. **ducking for cover**

Thanks guys

Yeah it's def easier on me and the babysitter if they don't go in. I'll have to think it over I guess. Just seems silly to even have school open! Chat Icon

Personally I have no idea why schools are closed at all tomorrow.

If they are doing conferences etc I can see it.

But DD is off tomorrow and I don't get why.
The wed before thanksgiving is not a holiday.

It depends if you want to send them or not.
If you want them keep them. They don't miss anything.
However, as a teacher, those days are all fluff and the kids usually get to do some fun stuff (free time with their friends, crafts related to the holiday, special event in the auditorium, etc.)

Our kids are off tomorrow, but if I had no plans and they had a half day, they would go!

I feel the same way - my school is closed to (for the first time).

From what I've heard - a lot of kids are absent that day, and my district had an extra day after starting early this year so they put it there.

As for the half day - unless we were traveling for some reason, I would definitely send my kids to school.

Our schools are closed tomorrow, which I like. It's nice having the day before Thanksgiving with my DD home, she helps me cook and bake all day. I'm glad schools are closed. If it were a half day I'd keep her home if she wanted, I don't see the big deal.

I think they get out at 11:15. Is that considered half day? So they'd be there for like 2 hours. Hmmm

It's just not easy for FTWM's and working parents.
Businesses are open tomorrow.

8 periods in a 2 -3 hour day = quick lessons!

I think I'm bringing my kids to work with me - they have been asking to come in and it's going to be a nice day.

Yep always did. I had to take the day those days as my half day did not match up to theirs.

They get up at 5am? That is nuts lololol. My daughter used to catch the bus at that time and got up like 6:00 or 6:15 lol.

When we have half days/delays (which is rare on the HS level), the classes are 25-30 minutes long. I have done fluff days in the past and honestly, the kids are just not well behaved so now I teach actual lessons or give a quiz/test.

If there's school, he goes, whether it's a full day or not.
