Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

I generally send out Merry Christmas cards. But in the past I've had friends who celebrate Hanukah, and would send them seperate hanukah cards. I mean..they dont celebrate christmas, and they were pretty religious with their faith. So I felt it was not appropriate really to send them a merry xmas card.

My cards say happy Hanukkah, most of our friends celebrate Hanukkah, maybe 3 or 4 on the list don't but I also get merry Christmas cards from them so I don't think they'd be offended and I'll hand write merry Christmas on them.

We send out Eid cards to both sides of the family - DH is Muslim and I am not...and we send out Christmas cards to both sides of the family.

We're wishing people good times, good health and celebration with friends and family.

If people don't like it, they can suck my ass.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

Mine say Merry Christmas. If I got Happy Hanukkah or Kwanza from someone I would not be offended, so I do not expect them to be offended when they receive my Merry Christmas.

I don't get offended by the cards I get but I also recognize the reality that people would think it was odd if I sent everyone my Hanukkah cards whereas people wouldn't think much of someone sending everyone Christmas cards. Kwim? I guess Christmas spills over religious and into cultural more than the other religions' winter holidays do, so it makes it more acceptable.

I get both.

I would feel weird sending Merry christmas cards to my Jewish friends.

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

I'm Jewish, and we've sent out Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and Happy Holiday cards. It depends on the design I like at that moment. I've gotten all kinds of cards too, because my friends are a mixed bag of Jews, Christians, Catholics, and interfaith families. I would never be offended by a card. I don't care what it says; I just like seeing pictures of the kids and pets lol.

Everyone who receives a card, regardless of what it says, should be happy that someone took the time to remember them at the holidays. It doesn't matter if it says Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Festivus. Chat Icon It's the thought that counts. It really is.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

I'm Jewish and I usually get Happy Holidays cards to send out to my friends that don't celebrate Hannukah and sometimes I just buy Hannukah cards to send out to my friends that do celebrate. I get all types of cards but and I love receiving all of them.

I do a set of Christmas cards and then look for Happy Holidays that are more winter-themed or neutral which I send to my Jewish friends. I try to avoid cards that say Happy Holidays but are too Christmas-y.

Same here. I like to have my Christmas cards actually say Merry Christmas but I also buy more neutral cards to send to those who I know do not celebrate Christmas. But, I would never be offended to get a card that mentioned a holiday other than Christmas or was neutral (Happy Holidays etc)

Whichever design I like the best. I've done both. I celebrate Christmas so why should I dance around it?

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

In the past it was mostly Happy Holidays on them.

But 4 years ago, I started sending out Happy New Year cards in stead of holiday/christmas cards.

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

Send out whatever you like. If someone actually gets offended over what's written in a card that their friend was thoughtful enough to address and mail out to them during the holiday season, then they're truly missing the point of the holidays.

Re: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays cards?

I would send out whatever you like the most, but I don't see why it is ***GASP*** "SO PC" to be concerned with wanting to be inclusive - especially if these are friends and family - which presumably they are since you are sending a card to them in the first place.

I get the "It's what I celebrate so that's what I'm sending" line of thought, but at the same time, aren't you sending it to wish the person you are sending it to a Happy *whatever?* If not, why not just not send one?

That being said, I wouldn't order an extra set (if you are doing photo cards) just to make it specific to a person. But I would try to write Happy *whatever* on it just to indicate that you recognize their holiday as well.

ETA - I don't actually think people get offended as often as people think they do.

I agree with this. There are people I've known for many years and I know they're Jewish, so I think it would be tacky to send Christmas cards when I know very well they don't celebrate. Isn't a card supposed to acknowledge the recipient and what they celebrate? I wouldn't be offended if I got a Hanukkah card but if it came from someone who knows that's not my faith I'd think 'why bother?'

I agree. I have never seen anyone on here (which is a mixed group) say they would be outright offended by getting a holiday card wishing them a happy/merry whatever that they aren't. If someone gets offended by a well meaning card, then that person should feel very fortunate to not have any real problems. I have a decent # of people of my list of other faiths. Sometimes my card says "Merry Christmas". I have yet to experience someone burning my card in a fit of rage on my stoop.

I pick my card based on the design I like.
