Re: Tell me why I should take this job offer
New job. It sounds more stable (for longevity) than your current role.

I would stay at the old job. I think having a position you are comfortable with may ease the transition back to work after maternity leave. Starting a new position with a newborn starting daycare at the beginning of cold and flu season seems like a recipe for disaster- Do you have back up child care if your child gets sick? A new job usually comes with a probation period that prohibits days off.
Current job only has 3 sick days. That is going to be a problem in the future too.

New job sounds great long term! I would be sadder about the shortened maternity then the pay cut...... I would go for it, the summer hours and extra time off will be worth it
Tell me about it. The first month has FLOWN by and since I've been offered the position I can't stop crying when I hold her close. 3 months is too short as it is. That means my time home with her is half up! BUT on the other hand, I'll have Christmas Break to be with her, then two more full weeks in Feb and April. I wouldn't have that with my current position.

Take the new job. The school holidays off is definitely worth it.
I feel like this covers the pay cut- instead of paying for child care you get more time with your kid
Unfortunately, if I put DD in a center, I pay monthly - no matter how often she's there or not.

Do you know the expected percentage of the annual raise? How long will it take you to get back where you are now salary wise?
Also, is there a pension? If so, that would seal the deal for me.
I was told current agreement is about 2%. However, looking at the salary schedule it looks closer to 3%.
There is no mention of pension, it's one of my questions to ask IF there is and how it works.
The salary offered is putting me back 10 years and it could take up to 10 years to get back to where I am unless I can take more tests and get a better position.

Re: Tell me why I should take this job offer
I'm civil service and I will tell you that in my time at my job, we have had medical bills that would have been astronomical without my health benefits. Way more than $15k. For that alone, I will never leave my job.
What I would ask them: -Is there a step increase every year? -What insurance do they have and are there any add on policies? What is your contribution to health insurance? -Will you earn additional vacation time with years of service? (I started at 2 weeks, but earned an additional day each year for the first 8 years) -Do you get sick and personal days in addition to vacation time? How many? -What is your contribution to the pension system and for how long?
15k is a big cut, but for the benefits I have, I would do it in a heartbeat. Not all civil service systems are the same, though, so there are some variations.

I would take the new position. 15K cut is no small thing but over time you will get back up there and honestly, to me, the flexibility and the amount of time off more than makes up for it. Good luck whatever you choose.

Tell me why I should take this job offer
New position!
I had 4mos maternity. I cried when I left her. So you'll cry if you leave her at 2, 3, or 4mos!
Long term it's so much better. ESP getting those vacations and out earlier. So it'll suck when you start but you'll get over it and be happy.

Luckliy for me DH is union so I do not have to worry about medical benefits. I've already factored the buy back into the pay cut. The extra vacation time is a HUGE plus. 2 weeks vaca, 13 sick, 3 personal. And then school holidays on top of that.
My worry is leaving my current job without being able to go in and clear out my computer or desk and not getting paid my vacation time (I'm working on getting that now). Not saying goodbye to certain people and losing contact with them (I don't have access to anything from home).
I know that 3-6 months from now, the month short of maternity leave will be a faint memory and I'll be beyond grateful for the extra time each year that I get to spend with DD.

I would go with the new job. There are more benefits in long run - better hours, shorter commute, early release in the summer, school holidays off. As a FTWM - these perks outweigh money by a land slide.
I agree! It sounds like with the second job you would be able to spend more time with your family!
ETA- Read your post above...why can't you go clean out your desk and say goodbye? IF you leave on a good note I don't see why this would be a problem.
And also- if you give your center the weeks off in advance your DD will not be there they should be able to work out some sort of deal with you. ASK!!!
