Horseback Riding

My 8yr old DD wants to go horseback riding. Any idea where I can take her. It will be her first time.

Re: Horseback Riding

There is a great ranch open to the public in Montauk - it's beautiful, a nice day trip, she can ride on the beach. It would be an experience for a first ride. http://www.deephollowranch.com/

But if you want to go more local I went years back to Sweet Hills in Huntington - it was a great experience with nice trails. http://sweethillsstable.com/

It's her first time. She loves horses but will like to introduce it to her and see if she likes it first.

Oh yes, I'm sorry, I took it as she wants to try it out and ride for an hour or so --- see if she enjoys it and then you could always look into lessons.

So yeah Sweet Hills would be great for that.

The one in Montauk would too but since it's far it's more of a day trip you would have to make it into. Which could be really lovely.

Not sure where you're located, but there's a great stable in Forest Hills, Queens, of all places! I learned to ride there and attended camp for years where I learned everything about horses- from biology to day to day care. I truly LOVE this place and all the hands on instructors. They love their horses and they love what they do. They have an indoor ring and do trail rides through Forest Park.

Ok, yes sweet hills is good but for your daughters age, I would recommend Wayans place Indian head on Jericho turnpike in Huntington, they have the wood carvings *his brother) they are great with Kids and have lots of programs. FM me is you need more info

I would recommend shared lessons not private since she is just starting out.

Wow had no clue this stable was still there. My dad used to ride at the place right next to them for YEARS!!! I remember getting rides up and down that block. So cool

My middle DD started at Indian head when she was 9, great place. We tried Sweet Hills.

Then moved to Thomas School in Melville right off Northern state on round swamp road for about 9 years. They have many options for group lessons, private, semi private and introductory lessons. Many horses and many rings for lessons.

Parkview in islip is also nice. My DD has been doing a few days a week at their summer camp. She loves it and you can do choose to go when you want.
