Ok, I have to ask an honest question for anyone that consumes animal products and is outraged by Cecil's death:
Why isn't there an uproar over the torturing and murder of hundreds of thousands of pigs, cows, chickens, etc., every year? So many of the animals you eat every day have been mistreated and slaughtered. Why care so much about this one lion?
Because killing for sport is a lot different than killing for food. This lion died for no reason. None. Animals who die to feed us die with a purpose. Big difference.

Cecil the Lion
the worst part is it was a canned ( I that's what its called) hunt, they tricked him to come in front of the hunter using food, which to me is not a hunt. A real hunter stalks and follows the pray. Very sad.

And they also poached him to leave the reserve he was protected on.

This story completely breaks my heart. I'm not normally a fan of Kimmel, but he nailed it. You can see his passion on this subject. It's so sad.

I've been following the story and i'm glad this p o s is public enemy number one right now.
First off, i'm vegetarian so i totally get what you're saying. Second, I think people care so much because he is a unique being with a name and tremendous spotlight, he's famous. He was a beautiful cat. He was being studied. For the most part people don't really care about pigs/chickens/LAMBS/cows etc. They are a vast faceless nameless group that people prefer to not care about imo. And i'm a former meat eater.
Yeah, I see what you're saying. I, of course, think it's terrible this poor animal was hunted by some rich a##hole for sport, but I'm vegan so I think pretty much anyone that kills animal (for any reason) is an a##hole.

I get your logic, but I think it's just a matter of perspective. I believe you don't need to eat animals to survive. Four years vegan, and I'm still alive
In all seriousness, thanks for sharing your opinion.

True we can survive without meat and killing animals for our consumption. We have the ability to get protein in other ways. My outrage is equal for the lion and how animals are treated and killed everyday in this and other countries.
I am not sure there is that much of a difference at least in my eyes. Both situations the animal is the loser. The fight and playing field is not level...

I'm vegetarian for 7 years now, and i'm alive, despite my mother thinking the sky would actually fall if I didn't eat meat. Especially her london broil

Cecil the Lion
This lion wasn't killed to feed a starving family. It was tricked into leaving its habitat and skinned and had its head chopped off for some loser to feel a power trip.
I've been vegetarian for 20 years and this is totally different from slaughter houses. Slaughter houses are still disgusting and I don't believe an animal should be tortured before it's killed for consumption. But that's a different situation. I am so glad he didn't get his "trophy" and so pleased his dental practice is shut down. He is a gigantic Richard head.

This is so disgusting!! I can't even read about it anymore because I felt sick. This guy is sick and I hope he serves time. I think his days of being a dentist are over. Who in their right mind would ever use him again?

Re: Cecil the Lion
killing a majestic animal like this by tricking him and letting him slowly die a cruel death....for nothing more than a mantle piece!
and this isnt the first time hes slaughtered a beautiful animal, there's a bunch of pics of him floating around with murdered animals.

I understand what you are saying too. In theory no one life should be valued more than another. However, humans tend to value certain lives more than others too (ex a soldier who died a hero vs a volunteer in a soup kitchen). The soldiers life is probably celebrated more.

Re: Cecil the Lion
This reminds me of the movie Hostel. This person did exactly the same thing by paying big bucks on a guarantee thrill of something so horrific. I read he killed a black bear too and was fined.
