Debate topic
Debate came up IRL. Do you agree or disagree?
"Black lives matter" is to "God bless the USA"
As
"All lives matter" is to "God Bless Everyone"
In other words everyone matters but why do we select? And is it okay to be selective in certain current events?

Without having thought about or had time to really analyze it too much, I think the analogy is a pretty good one. Don't get me wrong, I love our country, but I've always kind of wondered, why would God favor one country over another, when someone says "God bless America" or something like that.
But, on the other hand, I can understand why, in the face of certain current events, people would feel the need to particularly express "black lives matter."

Personally I have issue with the "_____ lives matter" statements that are being made all the time recently. For me, ALL lives matter and that is what the statement should reflect.

Re: Debate topic
Im not sure I agree with it fully, but it does put the statement "black lives matter" in better perspective for me. While me saying God Bless the USA, I'm not saying God don't Bless other countries, saying "black lives matter" isn't necessarily meaning that other lives don't matter. I think that's what makes me dislike hearing "black lives matter", because I feel all lives matter, but this opens my thought process up to hearing a different side to it.

Re: Debate topic
To me, these statements ARE NOT the same. One is a religious statement, the other is a social justice statement.
The reason why the black communities and activists have been promoting "black lives matter" is because it's already accepted that "white lives matter," and with recent events, it seems more and more precarious that black lives matter just the same.
