How would you word this?

I am hosting a baby shower for my sister. She lives in LA and the shower will be here in NY.

I need to order invitations soon and I would like to include in the invitation for the guests to not bring actual gifts because she can't take them back on the plane and it would cost a lot to ship them from here to there.

So instead of gifts I would like to ask the guests to please only bring a card with a gift card or if they choose to order something from her registry please have it shipped directly to LA - a picture of the gift can be included in the card given at the shower.

Any creative ways of saying the above?

Is there some way that you (she) can put some kind of notation on the registry itself that says any shower gifts should be sent directly to her home because she won't be able to bring everything on the plane? That way if people get an invite and then go to the registry, they will know what to do

I had the same situation for my sister. We could not figure out how to word it properly so we didn't include anything.

We told a few people who helped spread the word, that they could have gifts shipped to her house. For those who brought gifts, we just returned the large ones and my sister repurchased them when she got back home (we didn't tell people but I really don't think they would have cared).

We ended up shipping one box back to her house ground service so it didn't cost much (maybe $50) for a pretty large box.

My sister told people when they rsvped and it worked out pretty well. We drove though and the stuff we got at the shower fit in 1.5 cars.

I think this is the way to go.

I always have a problem when people ask for gift cards/cash instead of presents. I would put an insert in the invitation saying "As you know, x lives in California and we are holding the shower in NY. We ask that you arrange to ship your gift directly to her in California at the following address."

I don't have any suggestions for wording but my friend returned anything that was bought off the registry and re-bought it when she got home.

I like the idea when people rsvp, maybe the person taking the rsvps could say something?
