Is this grossing anyone else out besides me?

I'm in an area with a lot of trees and it's bad. I haven't noticed much destruction on the leaves yet, but they're piled on the trunks like....ugh...Chat Icon

Has anyone noticed this?

I have pictures, but they're gross...I'll post if you want.Chat Icon

I haven't noticed them on the trees but I have noticed them in the house and on my deck. I've never ever seen them in my house before and I've seen two or three. Last night one was on my side door. DD and I screamed!! LOL.

knock on wood we do not have many by me. I think I saw one. I do remember though many many many years ago there was a HUGE infestation and we literally had to walk outside with umbrellas because they kept falling from the trees into our hair. GROSS.

It's almost becoming like that. They say it's due to the lack of rain this spring. The rain helped produced this fungus that helps control the population of these things. I'm hoping the rain we've had this past weekend got the fungus production going.

That's nasty! Haven't seen it here, yet, but it reminds me of a few years ago, I went upstate with a friend and we were planning on going hiking. We had to drive on a road that went through the woods to get to the hiking trail and there were THOUSANDS of caterpillars hanging from all the trees - it was like curtains of caterpillars. And it just never ended. Plus the road was covered in dead caterpillars. It was so unbelievably gross. I was freaking out, screaming and laughing while I was driving. Needless to say, we didn't go hiking that weekend!

Re: Ok...can we talk about the Gypsy Moth Caterpillar infestation?

My parents and a few people I know have this this year. SO gross! My dad got some organic spray and then they hand picked the dead ones off the trunks, LOL. Now they put duct tape slathered with Vaseline on the tree trunks.
So weird, I live like 5 miles south (very close to the water) of them and have not seen 1.
I remember a few bad infestations when I was a kid, but not like this in years.

We've had tons in our yard, they destroyed a tree and a bush. My roses are bare. I didn't want to sprat but now i regret it. They have started to create cocoons in the creases of my trees. Its so gross.

My kids love them! They pick them up all the time.

Yep! DH pointed this out to me the other day. They are on a lot of our trees in the backyard.

Your trees are really filled though. Chat Icon

So these things turn into moths? So in a few weeks; we will have a moth infestation??? Wonderful! Why can't these things turn into butterflies. Chat Icon

Years ago people used to spread Tangle Foot on their trees in a 8 - 10" wide band around the trunks so that they couldn't climb up.

I have to say, I love the pictures! Just glad I don't have them.

I am not far from you and I have not noticed them. But I have not gone out of my way to look. Now I am going to check my trees when I get home...

It's gross, but I find it kind of amazing too. That's weird right?
