Re: Loss of estranged relative

I've never been in that situation with a family member. However, I had an estranged friend; her parent passed, and I went to the wake. So I imagine I would send a card for a family member if I found out after the fact.

Re: Loss of estranged relative

I am in the camp of if you weren't in their life while they were here why would you be there at their death. Feels fake to me to show up when you were estranged for a reason.

Loss of estranged relative

Yes. My brother. His choice not to be in our lives (manipulated by his c*nt wife). Recently my grandmother passed away and he thought it was ok to come see her (right before she passed and to the funeral). Um no. He hasn't been around in 10 yrs why come now? He was told in not so many words to go F himself.

Do what is in your heart. If it feels right to send a card, do so. If not, then don't.

I don't mean showing up. I mean sending a card. It was a cousin who lost her mother I was once close to but haven't seen. I have felt terrible since learning of this for her.

Are you estranged or have you just not seen her for a long time? If it's the latter, I would definitely send a card.

Loss of estranged relative

I think it depends. Are you estranged because you just don't see them anymore or because of something that happened?

I am estranged from some family due to choice and because they are aholes and I would not send anything in the event of a death. They are not a part of my life. I also have some family that I just haven't seen in a longgggggg time but not for any real reason. Those I would send a card too.

We are definitely estranged, not talking.

My DH says not to send a card but I am feeling so awful for her loss. I guess maybe it is out of place. We were so close growing up and I don't know exactly what happenened.

If this is the case, I would send a card.

I would just send a card. I have estranged relatives and when the time comes, that is what I will do.
