Would you be nervous???
So..............I pretty much NEVER go upstate. It just so happens that 2 months ago I booked a trip to a really nice resort in Lake Placid for DH, the kids, and I to celebrate Father's Day and his 40th bday. Now this whole prison break thing has got me a little nervous especially since they really have NO idea where these two convicted murderers are!! Of course I go and check the map and it turns out that Lake Placid is right near there, it's just the next county over!!!
My gut says in all likelihood these two probably fled and got as far away as possible BUT what if they haven't??? Now I'm nervous to drive up there and even contemplate stopping at any rest stops, gas stations, bathrooms, etc along the way. I know in all likelihood we will probably be fine but still, it's a little nerve wracking to think that there is the possibility of two criminals close by us and on the run.
Am I being crazy?? Would you be nervous??

Re: Would you be nervous???
I don't think I would be nervous, I would just be more alert and make less stops along the way (hard to do with kids, I know). I definitely wouldn't cancel though.

Their faces are plastered everywhere at this point. I am sure any movement they have is in the middle of the night. You are fine, go have fun!

Re: Would you be nervous???
Most sources speculate they are already in Canada. Very unlikely they would hang around that area because of all the heat up there right now. It's probably the safest place to be!

Re: Would you be nervous???
My family lives upstate and some of my family even lives WAY upstate and they have summer cottages within 15-20min of the prison. I think it's natural to feel cautious/concerned about the prison break but I would assume the two guys are already long gone and out of the area by now.
With that said, I'd call the resort you're planning to stay at and voice your concerns about safety. If it's a reputable, good resort they're probably already feeling the need to up their security and will likely do what they can to make you feel more comfortable.

Re: Would you be nervous???
I don't think I am going to cancel, I actually can't unless I want to lose $500 but I just feel like there is a little black cloud over the trip now. I will be more alert for sure but it's just scary to think they could be somewhere out there still. I hope they are LONG, LONG gone out of NY.

Nah...it's been a top story for over a week now ( ) and these guys clearly aren't stupid...they are probably pretty far away from the center of it by now.

Nope, wouldn't even phase me at all. These guys are either way deep in the woods somewhere or in Canada. Their faces are plastered everywhere, they aren't going to be hanging around where they are most likely to get caught.

ITA. If they haven't been caught yet, they're pretty smart, which means they are definitely not in that area.

Wouldn't phase me. How about all the criminals that were never caught? They're all over the place and no posters of their faces.

Re: Would you be nervous???
I would exercise caution if I stopped at a remote restroom/gas station/etc. However, I would do that anyway.
I would imagine they are long gone from that area by now. Even if that is not the case, Lake Placid is a fairly popular summer vacation spot (from what I understand anyway). I don't think they would go to a place with so many people who would likely have seen the posters.

I am sure they're not looking to draw attention to themselves.
But side note why do you guys all think Canada. How would they cross the border? I crossed once when I was young and we had to show documentation. Don't know that much about Canadian border crossing.

My thoughts too. canada is hard to get into, no? my friend was a boarder guard years ago and he said that while there are checkpoints, there is also a lot of land where there is no checkpoints and you can just walk across. I am 100% certain they had to have had a lot of additional help and the woman was their patsy. Where did they get the tools? Who taught them to make professional, clean cuts. How could no one hear all of the noise from the power tools. The guards are supposed to walk around and look into cells beyond the roll calls. How can they say with straight faces that they inspected the cells and did not notice the criminals missing? There are supposed to be checks inside of workshops if items are missing. How could they have gotten items and had the correct checks or pat downs? None of this makes any sense to me. One of the two men was an artist. It would not surprise me if he paid many people off. My other theory, is they were let out specifically to commit a hired crime. There was just way too much organization, I mean how did they get the plans for the penitentiary? How would they know where to go? Would a prison guard have access to substructure information? My guess is no, that would not be readily available. I would not think hat would be kept in the local library, right? So who supplied them with that information and how was that document kept a secret from routine cell checks? So to me, there has to be many other individuals involved in their escape or incredibly gross negligent conduct unbefitting an officer. The news also said work was being done, did every construction worker receive a copy of the full layout. To me, that is negligent too.

Ha ha ha.....love your thinking.
I don't get it either.
But back to the OP, I think there's more of a chance of something happening with some random wackadoo who has not yet made the news than these 2.
