Re: What to do if you find/uncover a bunny nest

We are dealing with this now - found a nest on Friday with at least 2 bunnies in it. They already have fur but I don't know if their eyes are open. I am keeping my dog out of the backyard, which is not fun. I put sticks over the nest on Friday and I think they were moved Sat morning, but not 100% sure because of all the rain. So I put more sticks Sat afternoon and they haven't been touched I called Sweet Briar Nature Center this morning and they said to give the mom a little more time to come back - but now I'm so worried about the babies.
Keep watching them. The mommy may only visit the nest a few times a day. Baby bunnies are very hard to take care of in rehab. The mommy has to stimulate the baby to urinate/defecate after they eat or else the babies can get bloated/constipated and actually die from that. Bloat is a huge problem at rehab centers and the rate of survival is not great (especially for little babies with their eyes closed). This is why they really push for people to keep the bunnies in their homes. They do best with their mommy!
I know - but I was getting so worried over the weekend because there was no sign that the mommy had been there since some time on Friday. I spoke to the people at the Sweet Briar Nature Center in Smithtown a couple of times on Sunday and they said to give it one more day to see if the mommy came back and I'm happy to say that she was definitely there overnight (or early this morning)! I was so worried about the babies all day yesterday but now it looks like they should be ok. When I spoke to the people at Sweet Briar yesterday, they said to look into the nest to make sure the bunnies were still alive - they are and it looks like their eyes were opening, so I think that means they will be leaving the nest pretty soon
OH YEY! That is great news!

What to do if you find/uncover a bunny nest
Happy to say that the baby bunnies left the nest! It was empty when I went to look this morning. At least I hope they left on their own and a cat or something didn't get them (I don't think that's what happened) Like I had mentioned yesterday, they looked like they were almost ready to leave and this morning the nest was empty. I'm so glad they were able to get to the point that they were able to be on their own!

You should see them around your yard occasionally. They are so cute when they are tiny.

I'm sure - I have been seeing them all over the neighborhood

Re: What to do if you find/uncover a bunny nest
There is a mama bunny creating a nest in my front yard all morning! my DD is loving watching it, but should I do anything?
should I tell my landscaper not to mow the lawn or to mow around it?
I want to keep these bunnies safe!

Even though ours got mowed over (because I didn't know it was there) and they were all ok, I'd definitely make sure the landscaper avoided the area since you know they are there. I hope the new bunnies do well!

YES definitely. If you're not sure when the gardeners are coming I would even stake a little sign with an arrow or something if you're not sure you'd be able to tell them. We lost a bunny from our lawn mowing incident
