We wanted leather for cleansbility but they talked us into a microsuede (it's man made. Not actually suede but impermeable and doesn't stain) They said leather can fade or scratch from kids, pets nails or of someone sits on it with keys on a belt loop. We got the pottery barn everyday suede and its held up well.

I have leather and it has scratched some, but I would still buy another one, since the ease of cleaning it after a spill outweighs the scratching for us. My DS is 7 and I don't think a fabric couch would look much better than our leather one at this point, we've had it just over 6 years.

ETA: I don't have pets - I might have a different opinion if I had to worry about that.

I have kids and have had 2 bonded leather couches. Within ~3-5 years, I started seeing each of them peel. Easy to clean, but not good quality. One was a Jennifer convertible and the other an Ashley. Probably won't buy bonded leather again.

Never ever do bonded leather..... They peel so bad! I have had my sofa a little over 2 years and it's awful

I recommend a fabric couch. I've seen bonded leather couches peel easily. It will look horrible soon after you get it.
