Did you look them up on the state site??

NYS Site

Here's Kiddie Academy's Results:

And Kindercare:

My son attends Ivy League in Smithtown. Not sure if you looked into there but he has been there since he is five months old, he is now almost 19 months old, and I could not be happier.

He just skips off to Ivy League everyday. They are so warm and caring, his teacher texts me updates, they upload photos constantly to their Shutterfly page. The care is great, they serve (when old enough to eat on their own) all organic food, they are always doing learning activities, there's no crib sharing ever, and they provide all the linens and blankets - and wash them daily. There is an EXTREMELY LOW child to staff ratio. It is clean and a very warm/home-like setting. I am so fortunate because I never worry or wonder about him when he's there.

At the end of each month I get a handmade booklet of pictures of him doing various activities during that month. Each month has a theme. The book also has his art projects. He is always painting or drawing. They play and sing music. Those books are priceless to me. I have made a big baby book out of them because they follow him and his progress month-to-month. It's such a nice keepsake. The facility is set on sixteen acres with so many grounds and trails they take them on when the weather is good. The playground is great. There's tons to do outdoors.

Anyway, any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks so much for your feedback! Yes, we're meeting with Ivy League this weekend. The concern I have with them is what about when the school is closed?
They have 2 weeks in December, 1 in February, 1 in April and time inbetween school and camp in the summer.
It would make it hard to coordinate.
Also, they don't have the 3 year olds nap.

Other than those two issues I love them! lol

Oh no - the school is on a separate calendar from the daycare center. So, the daycare center operates on a typical daycare center calendar... Open for school vacations and such as I work when my ex-husband, who is a teacher, is off. So, I need care all of the time. They are only closed on the MAJOR holidays - like Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. So no worries there.

As far as the 3 year olds napping - I didn't think of that I guess because most children move away from a nap at around 3 years old... So, I just didn't think of that but how old is your child?

Oh good I'm glad you are touring it. I mean, I think you are going to love it. I have to say, I toured a few other places in Smithtown and for me, it was worlds above them.

And I feel validated in my decision because my son LITERALLY dies to go there each day. It's just his favorite place on the planet. And if he's unhappy about ANYTHING at all - Trust me, I know it right away Chat Icon Chat Icon

I forgot to add that when I wanted to sign Julian up they were on a wait list. I had to sign him up on the wait list while I was pregnant and I prayed there would be an opening. I got lucky and a kid and his family moved out of state the month before Julian needed to begin! PHEW!

If they are giving you a tour then there must be a spot open so that's awesome!

They are 2.5. So, they would operate on the school calendar in September (when they turn 3)
Right?

ETA: if I remember correctly, the daycare ends at age 3.

Ohhh yes but i believe they have the daycare extension option. They have to for working people who have a three or four year old bc they aren't in FT school yet. I think it is the extended preschool plus program.

Also, right near by, check out BEST learning center. They were my second choice!! They seemed magnificent.

Rates high too. Meaning no issues on the NYS site.

Re: Kiddie Academy of Nesconset or Kindercare-Smithtown?

My DD went to Kiddie Academy Nesconset, and for what it was - a daycare center - it was OK. It was by no means my first choice, but I had exactly one day to decide where to put DD and I put her there because she had a friend there (which helped with the transition). Within a month we wanted to move her, because she was potty trained and not all the other kids in the class were, which resulted in some regression. She also went in knowing all her letters and numbers (which again, the kids in her class did not).

DH & I wound up keeping her there waaay longer than we wanted to. We ultimately moved her to Harbor Country Day School's pre-k program and have never been happier.

Oh yeah. Harbor Country is another really nice one.

It wasn't an option for me when I was looking bc I needed daycare, he was a baby, and they only have preschool and up. But yeah a really amazing place.

I have to say...I just checked those sites and am quite appalled. One of the places I visited did not meet the ratio requirements-While I was there. Thought it was a freak thing-come to find out they have violations for it! Very scary!

you also have to ask about the violations because the write up the on the site is the code section it falls under. the actual violation might not be exactly how its written. many times its not as severe but the wording out of th ecde section makes it look horrible. Not saying a violation isn't bad but just about every place gets a violation at some point or another....
