Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
I have to register DD for K in a few months.
For the immunization requirements, she has most, but will be getting a few doses at her 5 year old well visit this summer. So she will be all up to date with the State requirements by the time she ENTERS K, just not at the time I register her- like next month.
They are asking that I bring her immunization records and proof of all these vaccines to the registration. Is it ok that she won't be getting the final doses needed of a few until the summer? My insurance won't cover it before that.
Anyone else have this situation?

Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
That should be fine! bring what you have and the school nurse will probably contact you and let you know which vaccines she will need by the time she enters school. my dd was missing one or two shots upon registration and when she did get them over the summer, I faxed the proof to the office.

Re: Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
It's fine, they won't give you a hard time. My DD didn't turn 5 until three weeks into Kindergarten so she didn't receive the remainder of her immunizations until school was already a few weeks in. The school had no issue with it, once she had her 5 yr well visit I just forwarded them the updated immunization records.

Bring what you have. They will tell you what is missing and the date she needs to have it by. My DD was up to date two weeks before K started.

Re: Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
In our school district I was told they report to the state by October so they just need to be in by then. My older child's bday is right before school starts so every year wellness visits are in Sept.

Re: Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
OK thanks so much everyone! This K thing is freaking me out. I am NOT ready at ALL for my baby to go to real school. Good Lord I cry everytime I even THINK about it.
Then I see this daunting list of things we need to register and it put me over the edge.

Re: Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
It is no problem - they will give you the list of vaccines that she will need if she is missing some.

Re: Question about Kindergarten Registration and Vaccines
It is fine. My dd did not turn five until into the school year so she did not even have all of the vaccinations until October. As soon as she had her appointment I brought in the updated forms to the school nurse. As long as your dc has up to date age appropriate vaccinations you should be fine. If your dc is behind and their birthday passed then you could have trouble. I am sure they have seen this before.

Ok good. She is definitely not behind. We actually were told this summer at her 4 year old well visit that the state regs have changed for K and she would need more shots so we actually gave her an extra dose of Polio or DTAP- can't remember. The only thing she is lacking is the extra does of MMR and chicken pox I think. Which I plan to give her at this summer's well visit.
