Re: Is it ok for my DD to wear a white dress to a christening (not hers)?
Just wanted to update and let everyone know that I did in fact get another dress so we are good to go and are not wearing the white dress
With that said I will say that it's sad that anyone would actually be upset at a 4 yr old girl showing up at their baby's baptism wearing a white dress - I really think the meaning and purpose of the day is being completely lost on someone that would be disturbed by this. However, I would never want to upset or offend anyone on their child's day, nor would I want to be "tacky" so, I'm glad I posted!

My DD's christening is at the end of the month, if my friends 4 year old DD wore a white dress it wouldn't even register to me...like she is 4. If it were another infant then yeah that would be weird but a big kid? go for it iMO
eta: just read your update and ITA with you, it is totally weird to be offended. She is a big kid! It isn't like its a baby in a christening gown lol

You hit the nail on the head with what you said about the meaning and purpose of the day being lost. Thats it exactly. A baptism is about a child being welcomed into the church and absolved of original sin. Not about having the spotlight. Or what they or anyone else is wearing. I think that is what aggrevates me most about this whole thing. If you are worried about your infants thunder being stolen by another child in a white dress, then you aren't really focusing on the true religious meaning of the day. It's not about attention and spotlights and parties and favors and candy tables.

See but for me what you said is exactly why I wouldn't
Bc it's about that child. That day being welcomed by god and that's what they wear
Ftr I wouldn't be upset if someone else wore white I just mean I wouldn't dress my kid in it
I don't think that makes me "self important"

I think it's fine. Dr wore a white dress with a little navy embroidery on it and DS wore a white polo shirt at the christening of their twin brothers. I wanted them to look coordinated. It's quite clear who is being christened, so I don't see the big deal. You could always put some color in her hair accessory and shoes or tights.
