honestly? the take and toss were my go to sippy cups as soon as the kids were old enough not the throw them on anymore (the lids don't screw on, so if they hit the floor, they pop off.......) but they are dishwasher safe, NEVER leaked, EVER - and cost like, $3 for 5 of them.
I still use the ones w/ the straws and my kids are now 3 & 5.

Also, if your kids can drink from a straw I LOVE the thermos canteens - they seal shut and again, never leak. Pottery Barn has them, but you can get them in Target too.

With my older girls, I started only allowing water outside my kitchen once they were about 2-3, so they started using the Thermos straw bottles. I liked that they didn't really leak and they kept the water cool. At the table, we used open cups or the take and toss straw cups at meals. My 1.5 year old uses the Tommee Tippee spout cups for her milk and they don't seem to leak.

At 2, he was drinking from a regular glass. When we'd go out, I'd bring a bottle of water or a stainless water bottle.

Playtex straw cups or camelback/nalgene water bottles...they use regular cups at the table but if they want milk or water while watching TV or playing this is what we use and we never have leaks.
