5yo DS would rather go to school pajama party than Disney World

DS's school has a big read a thon fundraiser and just planned a pajama night to read with classmates. Kindergarten 5yo is so upset that he has to miss this pajama party to go to Disney World. I can't believe this kid.

We were originally planning to tag along with DH to a conference in Orlando. I was on the fence about it but ended up booking. I will be solo half the time with a 3yo and 5yo. Kids will have to miss 2 days of school. DH wants to meet up with an old friend that I have never met. I also know DH would want to go out to dinner with his professional colleagues and friends from the conference. If we go, DH would probably not attend most dinners and networking events.

Would you just cancel the whole thing and let DH go alone?

Lodging and DH's flight were covered by his work. We would just lose our flights. We also bought our parkhopper tickets but we can always use those later.

I wouldn't cancel.

We just surprised my DD, 6, with a trip to Disney and her first reaction was, "What about school? I'll miss my friends and the Halloween party".

Needless to say, once we left she was over the moon and had the most amazing time of her life............ And didn't mention school once.

Sometimes kids can't process things right away and have a hard time leaving their routine. But trust me, he will have such a great time at Disney that he won't even think about missing the pj party. Chat Icon

I am second guessing going because I will be solo half the time and the other half of the time DH would probably want to be somewhere else besides the actual Disney parks.

ITA. We surprised DD with a trip to Disney - we asked her "If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?" and she said "Target." She was extremely disappointed when we told her we were going to Disney and cried that she would rather go to Target. She quickly got over it though as soon as we walked through the gates! He will have so much fun he will forget all about school.

O.M.G. I am loving these stories.

I agree that their reaction up front may be negative but Disney is an amazing memory that can never be replaced. I would want to go to Disney myself, so if I was in your shoes, I'd take the kids no matter what!

I should post my video on You Tube Disney Fails. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My DD has been BEGGING to go to Disney since she was like 2. I planned this whole big surprise ALL YEAR and you couldn't see a more disinterested child after hearing she was leaving for Disney that morning. It took her until she got on the plane to pep and realize what was happening...........then she was freaking out with excitement.

But the surprise itself went over like a ton of bricks! Chat Icon Next time we're doing a countdown to Disney!!..........I am done with surprises. Chat Icon

I wouldn't cancel. My kids have done stuff like that all the time. WE are going on a vacation to somewhere special and my kids like to say oh but then we will miss XYZ!! It's natural for them to think like that. We remind them where they are going and they never have a regret once they go!

I'm jealous. I wish my DD loved Target. She never wants to go! This is such a cute story.
