Amanda Bynes Says Shoplifting Incident at Barneys Was a Misunderstanding
Police were called to Barneys New York Wednesday afternoon when Amanda Bynes left the store wearing a hat she hadn't paid for, PEOPLE confirms.
"Police responded to a petit larceny," an NYPD spokesperson tells PEOPLE. "Amanda Bynes placed a hat on her head and left the store. Security brought her back in and called the police, but the security decided to release her … She was gone when the NYPD arrived on the scene."
According to police, Bynes signed a no-trespass affidavit, banning her from the high-end department store. No charges were filed.
Bynes says it was just a misunderstanding.

Maybe getting arrested or Jail could be a good thing for her..maybe a judge will send her back to get treatment for her Mental illness since she probably stopped taking her meds.

You have to understand mental illness. My father had a nervous breakdown in his 30s couldn't remember who he was, what he was doing, couldn't remember having us  . It's not fun for her family members and friends. I feel for them more than her. Just saying to you it's not that cut and dry for you to say that.

She needs help. I used to think differently of her but I don't think this is a case of a kid needing to grow up. From her appearance and the other things going on with her I think she needs serious help before she ends up dead.

I don't really follow her story, was she actually diagnosed with something specific? Just curious.

I understand, but do we know she's been diagnosed with a true mental illness? OR is she just behaving like a 14 year old? KWIM?

Just reading up on some of her history and her parents are denying she has any form of mental illness. Saying she was never diagnosed it anything. Not sure if they are saying that to keep her medical history private or they truly believe that.
They claim her behavior is due to marijuana use.
From an outsider it certainly appears to mental illness. I've seen it 1st hand with someone close to me was was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Amanda's look and behavior reminds me a lot of her.
And whenever she thought she was OK she would go off her meds and relapse.
Very sad to see.
That is why I feel sorry for her.
ETS: When she was on under doctors care in California and on medication, she was doing great. Once her parents took her off her meds she's back to looking and acting bizarre. That should say something.

Perhaps you aren't aware of mental illness , how it works and what it's effects are on an individual. A number of reports indicate that that is schizophrenic. It would have been virtually impossible for her parents to gain convervatorship if there wasn't a serious imparement. Schizophrenia is a debilitating thought disorder. Your realty testing and judgement are virtually non-existent. She is very likely off her anti-psychotics and /or mood stabilizing medication which is leading to her unstable behavior. This isn't an entitled celebrity acting out. This is a seriously mentally ill women who is unraveling because she isn't getting proper care. That is certainly sad.

I guess I feel bad as I have a family member with Mental illness. Unless you have seen it I guess it can be hard to understand. She is a wonderful person and we love her dearly.... But if she is not taking her medication, she is reckless, obnoxious. She convinces herself that she doesnt need her meds. She acts out, has tried to kill herself a few times. She seriously can even start seeing shit! Without her medication she can not function in life. It is so sad and heartbreaking watch. Thankfully through proper care, and a great support system. She has been doing great for over 5 years!

I agree. I never thought it was marijuana abuse. I've thought mental illness all along.
She just told a magazine she has a microchip in her head and wants everyone to give her a dollar for reading her mind.
If that isn't mental illness, I don't know what is.
Very sad. I hope her parents or someone gets her back under medical care. She was doing so well.

There's no confirmation on her illness I can find but I do believe it's what her mom is denying which is Bipolar and Schizophrenic (sp?). I think her mom is covering it up for whatever is left of her career and I don't think it was her parents that took her off her meds. I think Amanda unfortunately just stopped taking them. She should be institutionalized a lot longer and when she does get released it should be to a half way house. She isn't doing anything major now to go back but it will get worse for her.
I know someone else with Bipolar and Schizophrenia. He's close to turning 40 he was recently sent back to the institution after he stopped taking his meds, started smoking pot and whatever else. His family forced him back to the mental hospital. Now he has been there three weeks monitored and on their medication and you would think he's back to normal but no, he thinks TuPak (that rapper) visits him and that he's a part of ISIS now, and he's 17 and it goes on. It's sad but it's real.

I am not, by any means trying to disregard or be disrespectful of mental illness ........I'm just saying WE as complete outsiders, who have never even MET this woman, can't diagnose and assume she HAS a mental illness from a few papparazzi pics and an articel on TMZ .........

Other than the pics and TMZ article she did receive treatment for something and was taking meds for something. No doctor by far here but I'm pretty confident she has some sort of mental illness. That's the thing it's not something that has to be told to us. We don't have the right to know about someone's medical condition but to say she's an adult and she should get her shit together wouldn't you agree you diagnosed her as being normal then?

In addition to her behavior and statements, I am basing it on the fact that her parents got a conservatorship and she was placed on a longer term psychiatric hold in an inpatient facility. Again, as someone in the filed, that doesn't happen unless there is a serious mental health related diagnosis.

Oh for God's sake - it's the celebrity board. I think they are ALL self absorbed, living in an alternate universe, and for the most part, incapbale of living in the 'real' world where the rest of us function day to day -
WHY must people internalize and take offese to everything?
So, Ok fine, I'll stand by my original statement that she's an adult, and she needs to get her shit together. I'm a terrible heartless person b/c I am not particularly concenred or devestated over the mental state of a person I have never met, and I'm a judgemental witch b/c I think even if she IS mentally ill, she STILL has a responsibility, as an adult, to take her medication and see her doctors .....and if she's incapable of taking responsibility for herself, someone, should step up and take responsibility for her ..........
