Prescription vitamins?

Does anybody NOT give these to their children? I always have, but recently a friend told me they are not necessary especially the ones that contain fluoride, as apparently fluoride is found in rat poison?? I have no knowledge of any of this. Just wondering the opinions of others and if there are some articles I could read. TIAChat Icon

Re: Prescription vitamins?

I give them. I doubt my doctor would be prescribing rat poison to my child.
If I was concerned about that it would be time to find another doctor.

I took the same ones as a kid. I lived. And my teeth are incredible.
Barely had a cavity.

Fluoride in moderation is ok. In fact, it's in some drinking water supplies.

Prescription vitamins?

We do not give DD and DS fluoride, so no, they do not take prescription vitamins. They usually get the Rainbow Light ones or no vitamins at all. We eat pretty healthy in my house.
And I work in the field and trust me kids who who never had fluoride still had perfect, white teeth.

Re: Prescription vitamins?

Yes! The rat poison companies want the rats to have nice teeth..sooo?? Chat Icon Even if there is, the fluoride isn't what's killing rats so giving your child flouride vitamins is not the same as giving them rat poison.

Flouride is in some drinking water, but not Suffolk, so we use the prescription ones.

I'm not talking about white teeth. Fluoride won't help with the color of your teeth.
(that's what a box of Crest White Strips is for!)
I am talking fluoride is proven to help strengthen teeth and prevent cavities. Hence why it's in toothpaste.

100% this. I trust that my ped wouldn't prescribe something that would hurt DD.

We don't give our kids flouride. If you look into it, there is research that the flouride replaces bone mineral increasing the likelihood of osteosarcoma. Boys seem to be more at risk. FYI Coconut oil and xylitol are some alternatives to strengthening tooth enamel.

Both of my kids take Nature's Plus - Animal Parade Chewable Grape. They also have a great sugar-free liquid vitamin that they took when they were younger.

They also take these..
Nordic Naturals, Children's DHA, Strawberry, 250 mg, Chewable Soft Gels. They were a big hit with my picky 5 yo.

ETA our ped recommended staying away from flouride and recommended the above.

Re: Prescription vitamins?

We don't do any vitamins at all prescription or otherwise. I just don't see the need. Both my boys are healthy, growing well and are rarely sick.

I don't give them...fluoride is a neurotoxin and shouldn't be ingested
