I need to pick a new health insurance
I am currently paying over $1500/month for health insurance. I am going to keep my son on the current plan because it is cheaper for me right now ($770/month)...I am looking for a new plan for me. I need medical, hospital, and drug plan. I need low deductibles and low co-pays.
My son and I qualified for family health plus through Emblem but the deductibles were crazy and the co-payments were worse... It was $770/month for the both of us, but his specialist visits were $50/visit and the other co-pays were $30-40... He goes to feeding therapy 2 times a week and that copay would have doubled if I took the plan.
I now have to find one just for me and continue with Empire for my son...

Re: I need to pick a new health insurance
I posted on a different thread that NSLIJ has their own plan.
I don't know anything about it or the rates but am curious to hear feedback.
Maybe try contacting them.
I feel like so many medical doctors are affiliated with them and they have good care and top hospitals/specialists.

I saw that comment and I saw them listed on the New York Healthplace website.. There were no reviews yet.

Did you apply for Child Health Plus for your son? That should be much cheaper than $770 a month, and is different than family health plus. Same carriers, different plans. You would have no co-pays or deductibles for any of his care.

I did... But I could only choose CHP HIP which is now Emblem health (all his dr's take that) He has 4.. The copays and deductibles are out of control... His specialist visits would now cost $50/visit instead of $20. His feeding therapy would either be $35 or $50/ per visit. Two times a week adds up... He goes to the GI dr, neuro, and allergist which are all specialists according to the health insurance.. The deductible was over $4000. Blood work was $50. Xrays $50. PM Peds would be $70. ER $150. Hospital stay is $1500/ visit. Allergy testing $50 plus a $50 co-pay.... My son has autism, ADHD, food and seasonal allergies, SPD, feeding delays. He is at a dr at least once a month for something..

That doesn't sound correct. There are no copays with any child health plus plans. I would double check that. That sounds more like an exchange plan through Emblem.

I will look into that... Thank you... There were no well check co-pays but everything else had a co-pay.

There are no copays for anything at all. Everything you posted above would be covered with no copays.

I was curious so I just looked them up. There seems to be a lot of doctors on there. I found it interesting that all of my local doctors are affiliated with NSUH/lij and only one is listed on their plan. They even list allied children's group on the front but our peds (who are part of that) are not participating. As with anything you pick. Just make sure your doctors take it if that matters to you.

Re: I need to pick a new health insurance
I would re-check the info you have on Child Health Plus. I helped my cousin get health care for her kids after her husband died. She was able to get insurance for them for about $180 per month each with no co-pays.

If she isn't helpful, just see if you can go with another plan through Child Health Plus (Fidelis, United, etc.) There are a few. If you are over the income qualifications, you just pay the full premium, which like another poster said, isn't as much as you are paying now. But still no co-pays. When you call back, specify that you are NOT looking for an Affordable Health Care act plan for both of you, you specifically are looking for Child Health Plus for your child. Figure your stuff out separately than his. Good luck!

Thank you. I think they signed me up for family health... I have to take CHP HIP/Emblem because that his the only CHP plan that his Pedi takes. His other dr's also take it...I called and left a message..
