Convertible vs High Back Booster?
Currently my 3yo and 5yo are in Diono Radians. We have never used these seats as rear facing, only forward facing. I suggested getting boosters with high backs and DH informed me that the booster with high back would be the same as the Diono Radian except without the 5 point harness.
Could someone explain the difference between a convertible vs high back booster?
Don't some high back booters have a 5 point harness?
I thought the boster with high back would be a smaller car seat, meaning the child's seat would be less bulky. I currently cannot fit a 3rd person in the back of my car.

Convertible vs High Back Booster?
A seat that goes from a harnessed seat to a booster is called a combination seat.
Your sons can stay in the harnesses as long as they fit the seats. (Straps coming from above their shoulders) Right now your 3 year old can not go into a booster seta with the vehicle seatbelt. Your 5 year old is at a minimum recommended age, but if you take a look at the article ElizaRags35 posted you'll see if he meets other recommendations.
If you need/want new seats you can PM me if you want recommendations.

I just realized that I was confusing convertible with this combination seat.
Convertible means rear and front facing.
Our Diono Radian is a convertible seat that also turns into a booster. DH just told me the Diono Radian would be a booster if we used the seat belt vs the 5 point harness.
5yo DS fits fine in the 5 point harness. I guess he will just stay there for now and no extra people can fit in my back seat.

Convertible vs High Back Booster?
Most of the times the radian is outgrown in harness mode around the same time it's outgrown as a booster. It also isn't wider then a high back or even some low back boosters are. So by putting him in a booster it unfortunately probably won't give you enough room for a 3rd person.
