How did you give birth ?
I know two people that had babies this week and both ended in c sections.
I had a failed induction and ended up with a c section.
This time I am trying for a vbac.
I just feel the recovery would be so much better... And I DO feel like I missed out ending up with a c section .... It was just not the birth experience I wanted to have.

How did you give birth ?
I know two people that had babies this week and both ended in c sections.
I had a failed induction and ended up with a c section.
This time I am trying for a vbac.
I just feel the recovery would be so much better... And I DO feel like I missed out ending up with a c section .... It was just not the birth experience I wanted to have.

From the research I've done, it seems like induction increases the chances of c section by quite a bit.

Was induced with my first 9 days late w/ low fluid-ended in C-section.
Planned a c-section with my 2nd-it was a breeze compared to my first experience, but recovery was a little harder since I had a 2.5 year old to chase around.
Find a mid-wife if you want to increase your chances of a vaginal birth. Had I know everything I know now, I would've used a mid-wife the first time around. However 2 healthy, happy babies is more important than how they got here.

Vaginally with drugs- had bad contractions so as soon as they let me get the Epi I got it!

I had 2sections. The first was bc she never descended, failed to progress never got past 7 CMs, and turned 24 hours into labor. One was 9lbs4ozs, the other 9lbs 5 ozs.
Keep in mind that some top hospitals will have higher rates of csections because patients with complications are more likely to go to doctors who have top reputations. So more patients with complications are more likely to need a csection for one reason or another driving the rate up. Something to think about. My older DD had a possible complication and my OB/GYN had me switch to Columbia Presbyterian bc they were much more well versed and more able to handle the condition then NSUH Or LIJ. LIJ only saw it once every 5-10 years, Columbia Presb every month.

You are definitely right about that being a reason that some hospitals have higher numbers , but 40 to 50 percent is still way, way too high. Eta: the world health organization says that the ideal c section rate should be from 1 to 5 percent ,with 10 percent at the outermost cap. They say that anything above that is unjustifiable.

How did you give birth ?
Vaginally with epidural. Epi was great and did not slow down the labor. In fact, after epi, I went from 3 cm to 9.5cm in 1.5 hrs! I asked for more epi right before pushing because it wore off on one side. They gave me some and pushing wasn't painful at all, just tiring. I would definitely get it again!!

Had an epi for both births and didn't feel a thing! 
EtA - both children were born within about 5 hours of getting epi.

That might be so, but I am not too concerned about WHO statistics. Many countries have very different standards of care.
I still think you cannot take the number in a bubble. I think it matters which hospital you are referencing, the number of elected c-sections, versus those for true medical need etc. So a major hospital will have a considerably higher rate because they are more likely to have a considerably higher number of patients with complications, not just a few more patients. Just as I would expect a hospital with the highest level of nicu to be much higher than one with a low level nicu. People who might have a complication are goin to pick a hospital with the highest care versus one where baby or mommy might need to be transferred. Also some areas people elect for c-sections (why I can't imagine as I would have killed to not have one, but knowing what I do I would have been leery of anyone who would convince me I didn't need them.
I stand by that it is more important to pick the best hospital you can go to, and you need to pick the best ob/GYN that you can, and that you trust to have your best interest. If you need a csection you do, which is why you have to pick an ob who you trust isn't going to do the quickest easiest thing vs what is best for you and the baby. IMO they have an appropriate place and time. Which is why picking a doctor you trust who is hands on is important. I know man who are very hands off and leave things to residents.

Induced with Pitocin and then vaginal birth with epi. 14 hours of labor and 1 1/2 hours of pushing. The only thing I'd change if I could was I wish they hadn't given me so many drugs prior to the epi. They gave me anti-anxiety meds to keep my BP down (I'm prone to panic attacks and I had pre-e so they wanted to keep me as calm as possible), but it really made me loopy and I didn't like how I felt the next day when my body went through withdrawls from the meds.
