Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

Just curious.

I can answer for myself.

Nope. I haven't had a shot in a LONG LONG time. I think the last time I had a shot for a vax was when I went to college in 2003. I needed mumps and got only that single vax after refusing all vax. I told them I refused to take the MMR and all other vax until my blood work proved I needed it. My doc agreed, took my blood, screened it and the mumps was the only one I needed and only one I got. He signed off my paperwork that I was indeed fully vaccinated because the antibodies were in my blood.

I haven't taken the whooping cough one
I haven't done my Booster in forever.
I never take the flu shot (I think its generally useless)

For the rest Why?
Don't know. I just don't do them. Not against them. I think its great if you do, and I wouldn't talk someone out of it as an adult. I don't think the Booster will do me any good or harm, just don't see why I should. The whooping cough one .. same deal. That made the 'news' after AJ was past the infant stage and I just saw no reason for it.

I see a doctor every single year. He knows I don't take my shots and honestly if he said "Veronica I'm giving this shot to you now because you need it" I would take it. He never blinked that I didn't update my booster or took the whooping cough one (and yes he knows I have a child). I've been to a doctors office (or more than one) for YEARS due to lots of things and they always ask and I always answer honestly. it never seems to bother them. *shrug*

Yes. But that's only because I got booster shots when I had my DD last year while I was still in the hospital.

Technically, I guess not because I never take the flu shot and I declined the tetanus booster. I don't think there are any other vaccines I'm supposed to get right now? Chat Icon

Personally, I saw a coworker almost die of H1N1.
She ended up in an ICU with a trach & still had nerve damage last I saw her from her hospital course.
She was younger, more healthy & more fit than I was (she would run to work).
She had refused the vaccine at work along with one other coworker (they both got it, but he was older & had partial immunity).
After that, everyone who knew her takes the yearly flu shot as soon as it is ready.

So, yes, as my children take the vaccines, I do too.
I'd hate to be a vector of disease (and I work with people, so I often get my kids sick & not the other way around).

The only vaccination I am not up to date on is the hepatitis B vaccine- I had a reaction to the vaccine so I do not take it.

everyone's different.

Both AJ and I had H1N1 during its first run. We were ignored at first (She is like her mama, we are a-symptomatic) since we don't present symptoms until its generally too late, I take my health very seriously. Still we were both overlooked. We just had to deal with it. Lost 3days work. Doc said we actually developed our antibodies within our own system. Both of us were high fevers, lethargic, achy and in pain. Given how we beat it within a week and a half or so (3 weeks in all really) they said our systems fought it off. I hated seeing AJ so lethargic (scary) but we still refuse the flu shot. My brother also got it and he was hospitalized for weeks as was my cousin. My cousin had the flu shot but not the extra shot that year. Everyone reacts to the flu differently as well as its vaccine. Heck even the vaccine reacts differently each year. I don't take the flu shot but I don't judge those who do. You want, you get it. To me its really about if it makes you feel better to a degree. Its not like it will hurt you (allergic reactions aside of course)

I don't see a doctor regularly so I don't recall the last time I got a shot.
Nobody offered me any shots when I was pregnant or in the hospital after giving birth..

Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

We have a Wellness plan thing.

It always asks when my last shots were for all the major vaccinations and requests that you take the Booster every 10.

According to CDC
From 19-65
Tdab every 10yrs (the booster)
Varicella (2 doses)
Females HPV (3 doses from 19-26) - I was over 26 when this came up and had already had my bout with HPV so.. no
Males HPV (3 doses as well) tho range changes on demographic
MMR 1 or 2 doses from 19-55

I am up to date... Had to be when I was in the fire department. Then when I worked as a nanny I got all my boosters... I get my flu shot every year and recently got the whooping cough booster.

Re: Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

I get the tdap booster bc I like being covered for tetanus. Some years I get the flu shot but not others. I don't have any of the hep ones or the hpv. Didn't do chicken pox but I had them as a kid.

I can't even remember the last vaccination I got and I don't do yearly flu shots. I try my best to eat a healthy diet and take my vitamins/supplements.

Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

Pertussis is the P in dtap.

I had a dtap in 2007 because I needed a tetanus booster. So in 2010 & 2013 I was still covered by it.

I am still immune for MMR

I had a HORRIBLE reaction to the flu shot when younger so I don't get it.

You should have immunity, unless you had a very minor case.

Can you get tested and see if you still have immunity?

Yes. Part of my bloodwork results when I was pregnant was for MMR and Chicken pox. So obviously there is a way.

Re: Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

I have had my titers for MMR, Hep B, and varicella and I am immune still so no booster necessary.

I have received a Tdap within the last 10 years.

I got the flu shot this year only because my job required it or I would have had to wear a mask.

I got the HPV series when I was younger.

I never really thought about myself until now but I guess I am fully vaccinated and up to date.

Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

I get the flu shot every year. I have 3 kids and I work in a preschool with children with special needs. I would not risk getting any of them or my own kids sick. And I got the Tdap in the hospital after having my second baby.

Re: Spinoff on Vaccinations: How about YOU?

I recently went and had ALL my vaccinations up dated.

It scares me (and angers me) to no end that eradicated disease is coming back because of one mans false, misleading, egregious and disgusting farce of a study making people THINK vaccination can cause autism.

So I had all my vaccinations up to date to protect myself against those who don't vaccinate their kids.

PLus since so many adults have had the vaccination wear off over time its just smart since we are now set up for REAL problems.

I never get the flu shot. I ended up with the flu this year but it wasn't even the strain in the shot, so had I gotten the vax, it wouldn't have mattered.
