Ei opinion needed
DD has qualified for ei for speech and pt, both twice weekly. Here's the problem: she will receive the services in daycare, which is near my work, and about 45 min. from where we live. But I have her home with me this summer (I work in a school). EI Services will start 2 weeks before she's enrolled back in daycare. If I start EI now in the home, she will have a different provider for the first two weeks, as they are assigned by geographical area. She does NOT adjust well to changes and new people.
Should I: 1. Start at home and change providers after 2 weeks or 2. Just wait 2 weeks to start the services

i would wait the 2 weeks. it's not ideal but i think there's something to be said about consistency with the therapists. my DS gets speech and PT as well and he took quite a few sessions to warm up to both therapists.

Just wait the two weeks if she has a rough time adjusting to new people. 2 weeks won't make a difference, honestly!

Any chance you could find a provider who would be willing to do the first two weeks at your house and then at daycare? DD had PT for a year and while the majority of her services took place at her daycare (35 miles from home), we had asked to find a therapist who would be willing to come to our house for the first few weeks so both DH and I could be there to meet and get to know the provider. We were able to find a therapist who was willing to come to our home for a few weeks before switching to her daycare. He even did a few makeup sessions throughout the year at our house.
I don't believe a lot of therapist are open to this, but having had a therapist who was, I know they are out there. Good luck!

That's what I was hoping but the agency I want to go with can't provide this bc the providers have very little travel time between appts so they limit the geographical areas.

I kind of disagree and would lean toward starting now with a different therapist. We had a few switches in the first few months and it was nice to hear all different perspectives and see how different therapists operate so I knew what I liked and didn't. DD loved the first one but when we had to switch after 2 months (not our choice) I realized there were some things I didn't like. Our new one couldn't start right away so we had a substitute for a week before the next one started. DD didn't ever get to know her or get used to her but I learned a ton from just the two sessions we had her.
Especially since the session will happen at daycare, I think it's nice for you to get to be there for the first few. Even if it's someone different, you'll get to hear their opinions on how DC is doing and get ideas of activities you can do with her to help her. I found that so helpful.

I'd tend to go with the 2 weeks at home first so you can hear different techniques opinions. We're already on our 4th PT and we've learned a lot of different things from each one.
Honestly, if you have the time and will be home, it can't hurt at all. For the first few times DS just sat on my lap and eventually tried to interact. It's just like if you have a friend come to your house. If it's someone new they are apprehensive at first, but they come with all these new cool toys, they tend to open up if you are right there.
If anything it would work for the educating you portion of EI so you know what can be done at home to help your DC.
