Has anyone taken it? Did you need to study for it? What was it like? TIA.

Civil service test
I've taken a few, it depends on what the test is for. There's no real way to study. It's a lot of reading comprehension, putting sentences in order etc. there may be some questions related to the subject matter of the test, but overall it's a lot of cognitive stuff...

Just to add, on the ones I took there were basic math questions as well.

Re: Civil service test
Check your library. They may have books that have copies of previous tests. I think they are called Green Books (the covers are green). My library (East Islip) has tons of them for the various individual civil service tests that are given. It should give a basic idea of how the tests are and you can use them to practice beforehand.

Re: Civil service test
You take tests for specific titles, like Clerk, Clerk/typist, laborer, mechanic, police officer, librarian, etc. So each test is different, because the questions are geared toward the position the test is for.
Here is a link to Nassau County's civil service page.
N.C. Civil service
If you click on "Announcements" it will show you which tests are currently being given.

This! I've taken numerous civil service exams and most of the exams, even the simple ones, have test booklets you can review ahead of time.

To add to this there is also Suffolk County civil service that includes township positions, positions at libraries as well as positions for school districts.
There is also NYS civil service for positions within the state.
