Allergy
This morning I gave DS a piece of homemade french toast with butter and a little syrup. He's had all the ingredients of french toast before, but this is the second time using syrup. So after he was done I took a target wipe (new box but have been using them for months) and wiped his hands and face. His face got a little red by his mouth - no other reactions. Could he have a contact allergy to syrup?

I wouldn't think the syrup. I would think the wipes. Did you just purchase this package from the store. Sometimes stores change the ingredients and it is not noted.

I don't know.
the skin in the areas is different and maybe the mouth did not tolerate it as well.
My DS also tends to "bite" his bottom lip sometimes, I don't know how to describe it. Like he pulls his top teeth over his chin. That makes the area red.

All wipes bother one of my sons. We NEVER use on face......only the butt. LOL

A food allergy typically wouldn't be limited to just redness around the mouth. I think it's the wipes, not the food.

I initially thought the wipes too, buy daycare mentioned it could be the syrup. By the time I dropped him off, maybe 20 mons later it was less red. Not sure how it is now. Could it be this batch of wipes? I could have sworn I've used target brand on his face before. Would it be weird if I tried it again tomorrow to look for a reaction?

You never know what it could be, I use target wipes on the hands and face too but never had a reaction. Could have been something in the syrup just bothered his skin from sitting there. I'd say if it happens again then stop using the wipes on his face but it doesn't sound like anything too concerning...

My Dd has incredibly sensitive skin on her face. Tomato sauce, hummus, and many other things cause her to get a red blotch wherever the food sat on her face. She would also get red if I used a wipe on her face, or even when I have to really scrub to get something (like syrup) off.
Could it be that you had to rub harder with the wipe to get the syrup off and that caused the redness?
ETA: my dd isn't allergic to any foods, it's just the acidity on her skin that causes the redness.
