first walking sneaker/shoe reccomemdation
Dd is going to start walking any day and I'm looking for a good walking shoe for her. I was looking for something other than stride rite, as I've heard that they aren't great because of the rounded soles. Anyone have another brand they can recommend? I'm not worried about price, but DD has very small feet too, so I might have a problem size wise.

We bought the first walking shoes from Stride rite - they almost look like little hightops. I never heard anyone say bad things about the walking shoe from Stride Rite

DD's first walking shoe was from Stride Rite. Now that she's a great walker, we tend to find less expensive alternatives. We will purchase baby #2's first shoe from Stride Rite as well.

I only bought dd1 stride shoes b/c she was walking so young 9 1/2 months. I got those old school shoes as i felt they were better for such a young walker.
DD2 was a little later (10 1/2-11 months) and I brought her to Stride Rite and b/c her feet are so small, the one by me (CT) didn't have any walking shoes for her. Only the pre-walking would have fit her. That and the price of Stride Rite turned me off.
I needed a pair desperately for her so I wound up in Clarks. They were $$ but I needed them but will never do that again lol
I am a fan of Nikes for my kids. dd1 has been wearing Nikes sneakers since she was little. I feel they have good support. Now that she's older I can do different brands. dd2 hasn't needed sneakers yet b/c of the summer but I plan on Nikes for the fall.

Stride Rite for sure. My ped highly recommended them. DD walked at 9 months so I wanted to be sure to get a very good walking shoe for her tiny little feet!

We got their 1st shoes at stride rite - but I honestly don't get what all of the hype is about them.
Everything after that has been adiddas for sneakers as babies - converse in the summer, or lightweight adiddas
I just tried to stay away from anything that was too heavy and uncomfortable for them.......
don't "They" say now that it's better for the babies to learn to walk barefoot, anyway?
We have done well w/ adiddas b/c the shoes are wider, for chubby feet

I got both DD's first walkers from Stride Rite, but after that our preferred brand is Naturino.
I highly recommend the store One Small Step in Woodbury - they are pricey but have a great selection of very comfortable, supportive shoes.

What's wrong with rounded? Stride Rite says the rounded front helps babies fall less... I've only used stride rite, but you could try pediped or see kai run.

I am another Stride Rite mom. My son never had an issue with any of the shoes that I got him.

Re: first walking sneaker/shoe reccomemdation
Thank you for all the replies. I've heard that it's better for new walkers to have straight sided shoes because it stabilizes them more. I'm interested in the Nike shoes. Where could I get them? The problem is DD is a size 2.5 and many of those are crib shoes. I don't even think stride rite carried that for walking shoes.

That's actually the opposite of what you want. It's preferable that, if they wear shoes at all, they be something that most mimics being barefoot so their muscles can develop properly. I was told this by a PT. Unless things have changed, but this was only about a year ago.

Another fan of stride rite here. I definitely noticed dd had better balanced in her rounded early walkers.

that's very tiny. How old is she?
dd was a 4 at 11 months and stride didn't have any walking shoes in her size. I'm honestly not sure if Nike makes them that small.
Try Zappos.

I know she really does have tiny feet. She just turned 14 months. I'm having a really hard time finding any walking shoes in that size.

DD's physical therapist recommended something flexible like the stride rite or pedipeds.

My DD has tiny feet as well (size 3)
While inside she is barefoot. When we are out she has no problem walking in these:

You can get all of these on zappos.com and I recommend them:
Pediapeds Clarks also a few stride rite and adidas ones that are flexible enough...

DD sees a PT and everyone in our circle (doctors, therapists, etc) say barefoot is best or the crib shoes that mimic barefoot are best. Shoes like Nike, you probably won't be able to get until she is a size 4 or 5.
