2 year old programs - crying
Hi, I have put two of my boys in a 2yo camp 2 days a week/3 hrs day. One loves it, the other is still crying off and on, sometimes hysterically, three days in :( I don't know what to do. How long is this normal for before i throw in the towel? I really needed this to work out, as I have another child with special needs receiving services at home while they are at camp. But it's making me an anxious wreck. Tia!

Is he just crying at drop off and then fine a few minutes later? or is he crying the entire time? If just at drop off I would give it more time. It is a big adjustment for them

2yrs is the separate anxiety age... AJ was fine with school before then around 2yrs just lost her mind! Every single day the screaming and crying and hysterics.
She got over it. I had to get over it. I work as do millions of other moms, so I just figured it was part of the way it went. Ironic, since I'm against CIO. LOL She got over it faster than I did.
It took weeks for AJ. I got to the point where I dreaded drop offs. Picked her up tho and she's laughing and smiling and wants to stay. *sigh*

Its completely normal. My DS has been in daycare since 8 weeks and he still has days where he will cry at drop off.
There is a kid in his class that will cry every morning but after an hour or so he is fine.
Unless he is crying the entire time I wouldn't worry.

Thank you, you have all made me feel better! He cries at drop off and then off and on. They estimated today, his best day yet, that he cried for about 40 minutes total of a 3 hour day. Breaks my heart but it is what it is. Having triplets, esp one with special needs, makes it hard to leave the house so I feel they need the separation, stimulation, and desensitization that this offers. Plus my other guy needs a few hours of my undivided attention. Ill hang in there :)

It definitely gets better! My son was almost 3 when he started pre-school 2 days/week this past September. He cried at drop off for a good month or so on and off and then was much better.
