Infant Tylenol Making Baby Hyper?

My DD had her 2 month shots on Thursday. She was a tad feverish so we gave her tylenol as suggested by the doctor. After periods of sleepyness, major gas and poops now she is soooo hyper. It's like she is bouncing all around LOL Mommy hasn't slept since 2am!!!! Is this a side effect of infant tylenol or is she just wide awake b/c she slept so much?

Signed,
its 6am why is she ready to party..

I'd think it's due to the shots and not the Tylenol. DS' sleep was awful for two days after his shots - it was like he reverted to being one week old.

My DS gets hyper from Motrin. We don't give it to him unless it's early in the day cause he won't sleep

It is very unlikely that Tylenol given on Thursday is going to cause your dd to be hyper on Saturday since Tylenol has a maximum half life of about four hours in babies. It is more likely you Dd is hyper because she slept a lot after her shots.

If it is the red one, it could be the red dye in it...

Re: Infant Tylenol Making Baby Hyper?

Yes, the infant Tylenol can absolutely do that. My DD always reacted like that to the Tylenol (my DS did not). I asked her ped and he said that is a common reaction that happens because of the ingredients in the Tylenol - some kids react like that. In talking to friends I know two other kids that have that reaction with different pediatricians who told them the same thing. Because of this I always gave my DD motrin instead of Tylenol. Honestly, it defeats the purpose of helping them sleep to give them something that wires them. It doesn't happen with all kids for sure as it didn't happen with my son but, it's definitely a common reaction.

My son always reacted to the red dyes. You can buy the clear one.

Yep! DS turns into a maniac with Red40. It was scary watching him go crazy & not be able to control himself. It's been dye free from then on.
