Car Booster Seats totally confuse Me!!

DD is 8 and in a high back booster in our car but we are going on vacation and might drive 1 or 2 days so need a booster for her.

The thing that confuses me is the latch system.

Can I latch the booster in while DD is riding in it OR is it only be latch when she is not sitting on it so that it does not fly around the car?

DS is nearly 5 and in a five point harness here...do you think it would be safe to put him in a high back booster for the 1-2 days while on vacation?

DS is 4 and he is in a high back booster seat in DH's truck, so I think your son will be OK for a day or two.

And we use the latch system when DS is in the seat. It's there to keep the seat in place

For your DD, Is it a dedicated booster or did it convert from a harnessed seat? If it converted, you'll need to read the manual to see if using the lower anchors are allowed when being used as a booster. If it is a dedicated booster and it came with lower anchors then they are allowed to be used. The only purpose they serve is to hold the seat in when there isn't a child in it so it doesn't become a projectile.

As far as your DS goes, how 5 is he? New 5, closer to 6?? Has he ever ridden in a booster before? He needs to have a pro per belt fit, be able to sit properly and upright, know not to move or play with the seat belt and most importantly not slouch over or down if he falls asleep.

Re: Car Booster Seats totally confuse Me!!

Thanks...DS is 4 turning 5 next week. Has never been in a high back booster before..maybe I should just bring his 5 point harness car seat and check it?

The booster is a dedicated one - I will be buying it specifically for this trip for DD -she is 8 1.2 and currently has a high back booster - graco nautilus but I dont want to go to the hassle of breaking that down plus I know if I break it down she will be whining for it to be left like that .She knows this new booster is for this trip only and maybe as a back up in DH's tfuck.

So the new latched booster for my 8.5 year old and bring the 5 point harness that we have for my 4 going on 5 year old?

We will be only driving two days not that it matters I guess as accidents could happen in the first 5 minutes of any trip.

If your son has a seat on the plane bring the 5 point harness seat on the plane. Don't check a car seat either as luggage or at the gate. Your seat is more then likely to NOT be treated properly and will probably sustain some damage. Whether noticeable or unnoticeable the seat then becomes unsafe.

If you're buying a no back booster for your daughter I would bring it in a carry on.
