Hey Ladies , I just took my darling daughter to the dr yesterday for her 3 year old check up.
I was told she looks great and is doing well but when the topic of her weight came up she said that I should just keep and eye out because sinceher last visit ( which was her two year check up) she has gained 11 pounds . )
She said she is tall for her age which is good she weighs 36 pounds and i was told she should be weighing in at 30-32 pounds.
My question is basically at three how much does your lil one weigh.....I know she isnt over weight but i find it a little weird that it was even stated like that

How tall is she? That matters more than age.
DD is 3 yo, 38" and 32 lbs and change. She is tall and thin, like pants fall down thin, LOL.

Yeah, height makes a big difference obviously. I mean my DS is still under 30 pounds, but he's only 35 inches (which is more like the height of a 2 year old).
Try not to stress too much over it, especially since everything else looks good.

It's probably more about how much she has gained in the year than her actual weight. Toddlers should gain around 4 or 5 pounds between age 2 and 3 (my friend just had the opposite problem - her son didnt gain enough in the year so she just went thru all this and talked to specialist)

DD turned 3 in June and is about 38 inches and 30 lbs. I don't think my DD is that thin - she is wearing a size 4 (not 4T). How tall is your DD? Does she eat a lot? Is she not active enough?

From the looks of your profile picture - I wouldn't worry at all. I think maybe dr. was concerned about rapid weight gain. Also something to consider maybe she wasn't weighed right at her 2yo apt - as it is hard to get little ones to stand still.

My DD is a few months away from being 3, she's I think 36inches and about 35lbs. She is extremely active and we don't do sweets or junk food other than at parties or holidays. She is definitely thicker than the other kids her age, but she is also significantly stronger that the other kids her age, and noticeably more active.
You know your kid, and what you are feeding her and how active she is. If you know she eats a balanced diet and is active most of the day, I wouldn't invest much into what the doctor is saying.

at 2 1/2 DS weighed 32lbs 8 oz and was 36"
now at 3 1/2 he is 38 lbs 8 oz and 41"
I don't think there is anything wrong with you DD's weight!

Doesn't sound alarming to me... my DD was 37.5 inches and 30lbs at her 2.5 year checkup.

I don't think 36 pounds at 3 is that alarming.... But I do think gaining 11 pounds in one year is alot for a toddler - no matter what the end weight is.

I had to go find our chart! LOL
Ok.. so at 3yr check up appointment she was 30lbs even. 36.2 in tall
at this check up visit she was 60% BMI scale (heavy) and 44% in the weight scale. They told me since she's half Hispanic half Asian it was expected (hi, rude?)
But.. at 5...... she's was 35.4lbs and 41.5 in tall and dropped to the 28% BMI scale. (Lean and mean) she's only 21% in the weight scale now.
Height makes a HUGE difference! She seems healthy and looks great. I think you're fine!

Just went to my DD's 3 year well visit today. She's 37 1/4 inches and 31.5 lbs. The dr said she gained 4 pounds since her 2 year visit.

I would ask your dr if it is the current weight that is an issue or the weight gain over the last year.

My DS was 37 lbs and 39 inches at his 2 year visit. Can't even imagine what he will be at his 3 year visit. No one has ever expressed concern about his weight.

She sounds fine to me. Obviously if she she's on the taller side she should have a few extra pounds too. I dont remember what my twins were at their 3 yr old check up but my DD who just turned 2 in May is already 30 lbs.! She's not even chubby or anything but she's also on the taller side. I dont really see why your ped even mentioned it.

Jess....she is fine. I can tell you that my now 6yo was 40 lbs at 2 years old. He gained 10 lbs from 1-2 yo. He probably gained 6 lbs the following year. My Dr and I always joked that he was on a never ending growth spurt. Finally around 4.5 yo he stopped gaining weight rapidly and just grew in height. Now all his pants fall off his waist.
I see pics of your daughter on Fb all the time and she is perfect.

Thank you ladies it makes me feel a little better hearing all these posts ....I def don't think she is at a bad weight but now that I thought about it I guess to hear she gained 11 pounds in a year was a little alarming . She was always so tiny and string beanish lol I always said I wish she had a lil baby fat she was a peanut next to her cousin who is three months older then her...she was born a month early but at a healthy weight at 6 pounds only stayed in the nicu for less then a week just to monitor her lungs...other then that has been a healthy eater ( but she does drink a lot of juice....watered down but still....she drinks water allllll day long like a camel lol) and she loves strawberries and raspberries she eats them by the container...I wish she ate more veggies but we try at least everyday to get her too . she is def a carb queen but we try to balance it out some...at 3 she has become a picky eater.
I totally realized I didn't post her height ..... her height at her 2 year check up she was 36 inches and 25.8 pounds an now she is 38 inches and 36 pounds.
Thank you Kelly that is very sweet of you ......I just love all the pics of the boys its amazing to see all the kids grow over fb ....gotta love technology .

The same thing happened to me when I took DD to her check up. DD is tall and towers over all other kids her age. She gained 9 lbs last year. She does not look overweight at all but the doc said she can't gain any weight in the year to come. She gave me so many dos/don'ts re: her diet. I felt like such a horrible mom at the time.
At the end of the day, though, i know DD is just a tall girl. I do not give her junk all day long. She is healthy and happy. And that us what matters to me.

My son is just 2.5 and weighs about 37 lbs. Doctor was not at all concerned, as he is built very thick, which she noted. She does not feel that he is overweight.
